I decided to give it a shot and see what these PC ports are like. Like you, I generally avoid ports (either console-to-PC or PC-to-console), but I'm curious to see if things have changed a bit. No clue about PoP, but DMC4 for the PC sounds pretty nice compared to the console versions (extra modes, better graphics/framerate, etc.). Think I read something about how Capcom was doing PC ports in-house now too (I think DMC4 was done that way?), so PC ports might not be too bad. The only problem is I need a gamepad now. Anyone have any suggestions? The 360 controller might be the best bet (best compatibility?), but I was hoping for something a bit cheaper and ideally shaped more like the PlayStation controller. edit: Or I guess I could get an adapter? How do those work? Spoiler I guess it is kind of wrong to call these PC ports given that, at least with Capcom (and probably most developers as well), they were developed primarily on the PC.
Think I mentioned it in the CF Deals thread, but I recently bought King's Bounty: The Legend, which I'm really enjoying at the moment. For those of you that don't know, it is kind of like some of the usual PC RPGs (Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate I think, etc.) in that you go around solving quests, exploring dungeons, etc. But the actual battles are in the style of Heroes of Might and Magic (more than just a coincidence if you're familiar with the history of the game). You don't actually do any fighting directly, but you recruit your soldiers, much like HoMM. Plus you can get a wife and have children (that's always a plus, right?). It has its flaws, but since it is pretty cheap and relatively unknown (I think?), I'd recommend checking it out. From the link I posted in that thread (~$9): http://www.nulime.com/Kings-Bounty-Legend/p382475 Gamersgate also has it today for ~$12. Also played a little bit of the Penumbra games. Not quite enjoying them as much, but they definitely have some good qualities. It has some great horror elements; I got some Silent Hill vibes at one point, although it is still very different. Not bad for $5 for the entire collection. I think it is still on sale at Gamersgate.
