i was thinking the e4600 was the best also

will my stock Pentium 775 heatsink and fan for my existing P4 work with this e4600?

Im thinking it should since they are both the same socket type and the e4600 TDP is less than the p4 I have in my board right now.

Yes it will work, but if you're getting the e4600 in a retail box, it comes with a HS/fan.

im buying a new OEM one so it won't come with the heatsink and fan

do you also recommend the e4600 out of that bunch ...would like to see a consensus (sorry Deckard  )

im assuming this would be a clear cut upgrade from my p4 2.8 1mb cache with a 800FSB

No problem. I said I was no expert. I will now go into seclusion!! ;)

BTW, recently bought a PC with an Intel quad-core processor, the Q9450. I love the cpu... it can handle anything I throw at it, so far, without breaking a sweat. Not a lot of games use quad-core technology yet, (do any?), but I figured I'd "future proof" the PC a little.

E4600 will be 25-100% faster than the 2.8 prescott depending on the task... I don't see a FSX chart to say in that particular instance what kind of boost you'll get. What video card will you be using?

Crysis and everything running the Unreal 3 engine uses quad cores. Crysis happens to be the best looking game I've ever seen.

Upon further review... that game is entirely CPU dependent and your video is fine. It should be noted that virtually all the core 2's overclock very well, so if your new board supports it and you don't get the framerates you're looking for... that would be the first thing I tried.

That's a FPS, isn't it? I'm more of a RTS guy, but I've heard that Crysis is the most incredible looking, and demanding, game out there. My graphics card would struggle with it unless it was in SLI with another one. While I can increase the size of my PS to 700 watts, I'm not sure I can run 2 cards in SLI on my board. I've got an HP d5000t. Any idea if I can run 2 9800GT's in SLI on it if I get a larger PS?

If you've got a sli capable MB sure. Also, I think I was the one who said you're PS is barely adequate for your current setup. I was going off of 8800GTX power consumption and not 9800. You aren't as close to maxing out your PS as I thought. 9800 gtx system power consumption

You might even get away with SLI with your current PS if you have good case ventilation and the pc is in a cool room.
