hey guys, i've had my current pc for about 6 years now and i think it's time to build a new one. i've been out of the hardware loop for a while so i'm not totally up to date on what's up. here's what i've picked out so far: i'm looking for opinions and constructive criticism. Power Supply: Not sure yet Tower: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147107 Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128604 Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130938 Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116900 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148659 OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986 CD ROM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204
There have been a thread or two like this already in the last week... However, your set up looks legit. 32gb of ram doe? Why?! Overkill IMO. Power supply, I'd recommend getting a haswell ready 80 plus certified.
Cut the ram to 16gb.. buy intel 3770k not 4770...3770k is cheaper and is easer overclocked.. With the money saved ..buy a better graphics card..gtx 670 ftw or a gtx 770...and amazon usually has cheaper prices...
32gb ram is overkill (8gb is good enough for gaming) gtx 760 is kinda pricey right now, best bang for the buck is 7950 for that money. You don't have a Power supply, get a 600w psu. If you want to overclock, go with a sandy bridge or ivy bridge cpu. What about hard drives? get a ssd (~120gb) and a western digital black 500gb or 1tb for storage.
http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx 4670k with Z87 Sabertooth for less than what you're paying for on Newegg. The 4770K is almost the same price. Evens out with tax but you're getting an unlocked CPU in return.
If you're not overclocking, you should get an H87 motherboard. If you do want to overclock grab the 4770k instead of the 4770. Keep in mind that you'll also want an aftermarket cooler, as temps increase with overclocking. Check out www.reddit.com/r/buildapc for suggestions. Hope I could help!
Not wanting to hijack this thread but can someone point me to a computer building guide? I want to build a computer like the OP but alas i have never done it before. If anyone can provide a link that has a helpful step-by-step type of guide i will really appreciate it.
it's pretty easy. All that stuff about you needing to ground yourself and be careful with electronics is BS and makes you more apprehensive on first try than you should. It's just plugging in things to sockets.
This is the route I took a year ago. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/lPIXAtNGGCw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/d_56kyib-Ls" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/RxaVBsXEiok" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Thank you guys im gonna book mark this thread for when i start building it. Maybe then ill make a thread for more pointers. Rep for both of you fine gentleman.
*bump* any of those sites like cyberpowerpc and ibuypower good enough to buy pre built PC's? i think both sites can allow you to customize what you want. thinking about buying a new gaming rig...don't have the time or want to mess with trying to build one.
When I was researching whether to build a rig or buy a pre-built last year it seemed like Microcenter had much better value on pre-builts than those companies. If you're near one I'm guessing that's probably still the way to go.
Yea, I bought a pre built from Microcenter exactly a year ago today. i6700, gtx1080, 16gb Ram. Very happy with it although the mouse and keyboard were crap. Upgraded those immediately.
I started looking around as building another rig for a buddy of mine and was completely shocked at the prices of some of these graphics cards. My goodness, has the crypto-currency mining fad affected these cards that much? I got my GTX 1080 16 months ago for $600 from new egg new and now they are over $1000 each, IF you can even find them in stock.
Yeah, right now is a terrible time to build a PC with the hyper-inflated GPU prices. I built a low-end rig about a year ago with an RX 470 that was about $140 at the time and now that same GPU is impossible to find for less than $300. Crazy. RAM prices are pretty bad too.
