It could be better with AB or even Lin in the lineup instead of Bev, who knows This is rather misleading stat
oRtg and dRtg, while tedious are easy to calculate. All PM based stats suffer from small sample size, especially this early in the season. That is why they add in previous seasons data and box score information when calculating individual players xRAPM and ASPM. The meaning is further convoluted when considering lineups. The classic example I use is Boozer lineups in Chicago. Boozer actually looks good defensively with certain lineups because his defensive ineptitude is covered by his team mates. All in all PM based lineup data needs to be taken with a serious grain of salt especially this early in the season.
Lin was injured before he could play any meaningful minutes with the new and improved TJones line up. The sample size of minutes with TJonbes/Bev is far too small a sample to be meaningful. In a nutshell, the sample size is WAY too small to reach any meaningful conclusions from that data, other than we outscored the opponent on those days (all 3 or 4 of them). And even then, you couldn't determine if it was due to us playing well OR the opponent was playing poorly OR some combination of both. Statistically meaningless at this point without corroborative statistics and/or significantly larger sample size. Translation : Nothing to see hear. Come back in 20 or 30 games.
Odd. As bad as McHale is at rotations according to some here at Clutchfans, his lineups with the most minutes tend to match up very well with lineups with best +/- not counting TT and the lineups used to give Harden and/or Parsons a rest.
Thanks, that's what I thought. I didn't think Lin had a chance to play with Tjones starting yet. He had to start with the effective twin tower experiment I believe. We know how well that went.
http://stats.nba.com/teamLineups.html?TeamID=1610612745&pageNo=1&rowsPerPage=25 There are some stats on the starting line-up with Bev versus with Lin. There is a smaller sample size but that being said, it does show two things that are consistent with conventional wisdom: a) the line-up with Lin has a higher scoring percentage (FG, 3pt or FT) b) the line-up with Bev rebounds better, has more blocks and steals (on a per minute basis) In each case, the differences are small enough to question whether they are statistically significant however.
If I am reading this right, the line-up with Bev played 156 minutes and barely qualified for the article. Lin's line-up played 39 minutes and would actually not be looked at by the PBT article.
Stick any decent player from the team with a lineup of Harden, Parsons, Jones and Dwight and they will still do well. Not a knock on Bev, just recognizing how good the other 4 are.
I don't find it shocking that OKC is better without Perkins in the starting lineup. I imagine they'd be better without him in *any* lineup, but I guess I'll keep a lid on my Perk disdain for today.
Actually, althoght the have the best net efficiency rating in the leauge, Lin is in the next 4 best line ups for our team, One which is not far behind the starters. Lin-Harden-Parsons-Casspi-Howard is the rockets next best line up, and YES we do need this line up
Small sample sizes exaggerate results. Need a lot more than 150 minutes for anything to be conclusive.
No more sample size needed. According to the stats, OKC has had the worst starting lineup for the LAST 3 YEARS. Matches my "eye test" completely. OKC starts 5 scrubs. Isn't 250 games enough data?
I think adding jones and dwight has something to do with it, no? we don't have enough sample size of the lin-harden-parson-jones-dwight lineup, so not really apples-to-apples comparison.
I think the sample size is so small, it is so easy to get affected to the game you are playing in. If a line up played heavy minutes in the 118-137 lose with CLIPPRs, the line up's deffensive rating will be really high. And if you play in heavy minutes in 109-85 win against celtics, the line up will have pretty good DffRtg and good OffRtg then. Plus, the way Harden played in games against Jazz and Sun is so different from the way he played in Magic and Warriors, I'd think James's performance could easily single handedly change the line up result with this little sample size.
The great Kendrick Perkins. OKC very rarely finish with their starting lineup either, they certainly didn't when Harden was there.
Until you play the same amount of games with Lin as a starter you have nothing to compare. Lin is the better player, I think it is simple that he should be the starter.
Well no matter what. The stats show that Bev starting is not killing the team. While Ibdon't think it is the optimum choice, I have to admit that is not hurting.
Not doing any harm won't be enough in the long run. Bev's gotta contribute more than simply making up for Harden's defensive struggles. Until he gets better or gets replaced, PG will be a relative weakness.
I think when Lin comes back, it will sort of free up Bev. I always thought that this would work if he did not change his playing style - and he can't sustain last year's on the ball pressure style for 35+ minutes a game. Fatigue or fouls would surely kick in.
