Bush Sr was the most qualified president in history*, and that turned out not so well...

It is a shame he'll always be overshadowed by jr. I should track down his book.

McCain hasn't even been a "community organizer". McCain's executive and organizing record isn't very strong.

-One of the least impressive students in the whole Naval Academy (and probably admitted via legacy, see next point).

-Military man who wasn't "Admiral material" even though he was a celebrated hero when he returned and had a father and grandfather who were admirals. (If ever there was a fast track to full admiral if you were just OK in leading/organizing you would think he had it). In fact this is why he left the military for politics, it didn't fit his ambitions once he reached what they thought his ceiling was.

-Ran two unimpressive campaigns that nearly went bankrupt and changed staff/message midstream, and only to win the nomination by attrition vs weak candidates.

-Is well known as being a hot head and creating enemies on both sides of the aisle.

Maverick senator, check, maverick (and individually a hero) soldier, check, disorganized and undisciplined (fiscal, personnel and message) national campaigns, check. Personally I think McCain has a lot of fine human attributes, but he certainly does not reek "executive".

Palin is hard to know. But 2 years of chopping heads in her first major position (and some complaints being pursued legally against her) is hardly a long record. Successful long-term organizational change takes a lot longer; she may only be the government version of a corporate liquidator with a mile wide ego. It is easy to cut costs by firing people, but only time tells was it the right move long term.

I respectfully disagree that Bush Jr. will be more highly regarded by history than Bush Sr. who used masterful diplomacy in building the Gulf War coalition. Bush, Jr. totally bumbled Iraq II. Plus, in almost every way Bush Sr. was so much more intelligent than Jr.

Only dangerously delusional folk think Bush Jr. will be highly regarded by history.

Cleaning up GWB presidential poop will take decades, some of the damage to civil liberties and expansion of executive power may be permanent.

Which may be the shadow BigBenito was trying to point out.

You got your information from bad sources. I'll tell you what a community organizer is. It's someone who goes into the poorest most needy areas of inner cities and then works to help register voters, setup community centers, work with various other programs that can help with youth, job training, getting people off of welfare, and that kind of stuff. It's the kind of thing MLK did. If you want to disparage that, go ahead. But it just makes you look silly.

In the Senate he most certainly has accomplished plenty. Including co-sponsoring a bill the a member of the opposing party, Tom Coburn. The legislation bares Obama's name. It's such a great piece of legislation that even Sarah Palin likes it. She boasted that it's the kind of thing She and McCain would do in the white house. Sadly she wasn't even aware that Obama had already co-sponsored and gotten the legislation passed.

Palin and the others at the GOP convention appeared to not have any knowledge of what they were talking about when they tried to slam Obama, so it isn't surprising that you don't either.

I reject the whole idea that being in the US Senate is worthless experience and that being a mayor or governor is per se better experience. This is part of the anti-government bias of the conservative movement that is currently being discredited by the need to bail out Wall Street failure due to insufficient government regulation.

WTF is that? Well, it's a falsehood repeated by the GOP so many times that some choose to believe it.

Obama was "only" a community organizer just like Sarah Palin was "only" a sportscaster. Similar stages of their careers. You are ignoring his work for law firms, his work for the University of Chicago, and his entire legislative career.

But that's fine. I guess I can just call Palin a pretty (or a once-pretty) small-town sportscaster. Ya sure, you betcha!

She's a natural born citizen and at least 35 years of age. Yes, she's qualified to be president of the United States.
