And they were going to be any closer to winning a title with Payton and Fox, I don't think so. I wonder what it takes to be an ESPN columnist these days.
Except for Divac, the Lakers have a team thats under 30, they are all young. I like Atkins and Mihm can shoot the ball. Maybe Mihm can be the new Robert Horry of the Lakers.
Without context, Bill Simon's statement does make sense. He's not saying Payton + Fox is better, he's just saying Mihm + Atkins won't get it done. BTW, I don't think people should question Simon's credibility of being a ESPN columnist just based on a single sentence. He is good at what's he doing --- writing columns that make sense using plain but funny language.
Divac and Brian Grant. Forget Mihm, he'll might be a more talented version of Mark Madsen, Luke Walton can be the new Robert Horry.
I did read the whole column and I disagreed with a lot of what he said thats all. I didn't consider the fact that it was Page 2.
Chad Ford nailed it again! Payton/Fox for Kidd, way to go Insider, worth every penny and then more...
By the way, if you look for real insiders, the folks at ************** called this one first. Way to go dudes...
Here's the thing I like about Danny Ainge: He doesn't make the same mistake twice well, that's one way of putting it. he just makes different ones each time. and damn simmons put on his celtics colored glasses for that article. every rookie tearing it up, franchise player in the mix, good contract situation even with raef in the picture. i don't seem to see the post with the article in the thread anymore so is posting stuff, even from page 2 and not insider, not allowed. or did it have something to do with no link in the post?
I was checking out the Celtics website to see if I could figure out Danny Ainge. Guess who I found? Former Rocket player and coach, Dave Wohl is an assistant coach there.
that's my prediction too.. they will run loads of Kobe, Butler and Odom at the 1, 2, and 3 who would have thought.. Rudy trying to create mismatches... moving Odom to the 3 means some nice post mismatches for him and the back door bandit
I keep thinking that Kobe and Odom will be a nice PnR combo, especially if Odom gets spot mins at the 4.
I'm not sure why Ainge gets bashed so much. Reviewing the moves he's pulled off so far, I think he's done a wonderful job. At the very least he puts the efforts of Pitino and Chris Wallace (a spineless puppet of the owner, kind of like Rod Thorn in New Jersey) to shame. Acquiring Raef's overvalued contract was questionable, but keeping in mind Antoine Walker's trade value, the fact that the Celtics netted two good prospects (arguably three, since Chris Mill's contract was involved in the Detroit trade that brought over Tony Allen) and that Raef appears to be healthy at this point I don't think it's as big a blunder as some make it out to be. I believe Ainge when he says he couldn't get a better deal, considering that Dallas just effectively dumped his expiring contract for Jason Terry. What worries me is that Ainge is pursuing cap flexibility at all, because it will be impossible to lure a big-name free agent to Boston until around 2007 (thanks in large part to Wallace). His focus should be to acquire long-term assets that will keep the Celts competative until then... ...but I still like this trade. It frees up playing for Jefferson and West, and gives us a potentially high-value draft pick in the future. Not to mention Gary Payton, who, as Simmons pointed out, will hopefully play with a chip on his shoulder. As for the Lakers, who cares? It's all about the C's from here on out
Bill Simmions is clueless --- I mean come on he dissed Houston during the superbowl (which totally rocked). His article on this trade was written like he had been drinking Jagermeister all day.
