That's interesting, i had it figured that he had a couple of more years. Welcome the next coach of your Philadelphia 76ers: Maurice Cheeks.
"They released me," Silas said. "They didn't think the team was performing as well as it should be and they wanted to make a change." The Cavs have not performed this well in forever. I wonder where management got its expectations. I also wonder how well Silas and James got along.
I'd be shocked if Lebron had no say. If Lebron and Silas were on great terms, I don't see them firing Silas at this point in the year. I'm not implying that Lebron forced the firing, but he probably didn't exactly say he was the best coach either.
Silas deserves to be fired. The guy is really strange, talking bizarre stuffs. He should concentrate on his job instead of going personal attack on somebody. Now on his job, I never thought he was a great coach or what. 5th seed or not, Cleveland is tanking, something is wrong and he could not fix it but bad mouth former players. He has done something for the former Charlotte team with Baron Davis, but that team always crashed. People might say that's because players always got injuried for that team. Well, maybe that's because Silas's coaching style. Maybe he demanded so much that players had to play in a way to make themselve injuried eventually.
They definitely let Lebron in on the decision. They did be crazy not to (his contract will be up soon......in 2 years). I bet they even tell Lebron what they eat for breakfast.....seriously (Lebron is that great and powerful). I really see Phil latching on to Lebron next year. Gosh Phillip is such a lucky man. And as for the firing of Silas all I can say is.......wow!
Well, given the fact he did the See U Next Tuesday thing, he had to of seen it coming...I'm sure Lebron had a say in it, as he is the Franchise...
I agree with most but a few corrections. McInnis is not young, he is on the tail end of his career as a 30 year old combo guard. Gooden has been decent, but he is rapidly becoming a journeyman who was a fill in after Boozer screwed them Consider Cleveland only has FOUR guys on the whole team who can score more than 6PPG. They are an extremely thin team (could blame the GM for that, but not Silas). I think the Silas has done a fine job getting Cleveland safely in the playoffs this year and in the running of a 1st round buy. Just getting into the playoffs is progress with the Cavs, having a chance to advance 1 round (which they do) should have been gravy. This smells fishy, just wonder where the rat is.
My old English professor is Paul Silas' cousin. They both played BBALL together in HS and in college @ Creighton... Anyway... my teacher told me that before his aunt died (Paul's Mother), everyone in the family tried to get Paul to come back to Oakland to visit his mom on her death bed... but he never came because he said he was negotiating a multimillion dollar contract (to coach the Cavs)... he didn't even attend the funeral.
Wasn't Silas one of the contenders for the Rockets coaching position? I think many at the time would've wanted to see him coach than JVG.
I never cared for Paul Silas as a coach, didn't think he was that big a deal. I thought it was a mistake for Cleveland to hire him in the first place.
All this may be true, but Lebron has played as good as T-Mac, Z on par with Yao, Gooden is nowhere near Howard in his prime, but definitely as good as Howard this year, and though McGinnis and Snow aren't great, they have at least been there consistently all year. And they play in the East. And, as mentioned, the Cavs are tanking and have really sucked lately. If you were going to fire Silas at the end of the year anyway, which I think was going to happen given his oddities, the # of potentially better coaches out there, and what's turning out to be only an average team, why NOT do it now? Doesn't seem THAT strange to me.
