Performance in the Finals is so overrated, and yes I know its the biggest stage, but does a couple of good games (lets not forget that he bombed a couple of games in between throughout the playoffs too) warrant him "the best player in the league" tag? Micheal Jordan was a consensus for that because he dominated during the regular season and ,of course, the playoffs, not to mention he was playing alongside a fellow Halll of Fame wing player in Scottie Pippen. There were many times that his ass was saved by a random hot game by Allen or Garnett; and lets not forget that the Lakers bombed a a 24 point lead, which if you remember, was spearheaded by the ROLE players on the Celtics. I really hate Paul Pierce now, not just because I find his raspy voice annoying, but it seems that he's getting stuff into his head now. People here hate on Tmac a lot, but atleast he HAS never said something like this (albeit the "Comment" he made in 2003 was pretty dumb too). But back in 2003 when he was a leading MVP candidate, when he was asked who he felt should be MVP, he quickly said Jason Kidd. And last year (I think) when they asked him who he thinks is the best player in the league, he said Kobe and said admirable things about him. Paul Pierce-lets see how you do without Garnett/Ray Allen? Hmm?
Well we know how that went down - the Celtics without KG and Allen but having Pierce was a lottery team. I used to like PP (I cannot stand Garnett and Allen is eh), but hearing these comments that he made makes me want to throw up.
When Artest locks him down for four straight games next June, we'll see if he still feels the same way.
confidence is of course good, and lebron and kobe certainly don't lack for it, but who says they're the best player (except i guess a crazy guy like marbury) in an interview? it's not like kobe's ever said it. and lebron always says kobe's the best. not that anyone else is really in the conversation, but who else has done it? this was one reason i didn't want the celtics to win, because i figured garnett and pierce would start getting big heads over the whole thing and pretend they had no shortcoming just b/c they finally had other stars to make up for their shortcomings. pierce appears to have struck the first blow, but garnett's got a whole season worth of tnt and abc and espn interviews to get in some comments. hopefully he doesn't, and recognizes the accomplishment for what it is.
Not too surprised, he's got an ongoing rivalry/feud with Kobe and LeBron. He gets amped up in the biggest way when playing them. IIRC, he and LeBron have nearly tangled a couple of times. Evan
Im the biggest king james fan but what can they say paul basically matched lebrons epic game 7 45 point perfomance and booted him and kobe out of the post season so if anyone can make the claim right now its the finals mvp But obviously paul knows its a lie lol
Paul Peirce in his prime needed Antwon Walker in his prime too to get anywhere. Tmac led this Houston team to 22 wins. Peirce couldn't go anywhere with Al jefferson and delonte west. Common, this is easily a case of PCC post-championship cockiness. Tmac may not take a weak supporting cast past the first round, BUT Peirce can't take a weak supporting cast to the playoffs
best post here. But essentially he isn't even competing with tmac, but with Kobe which shows how r****ded this guy is
He basically sucked ever game before that dude. A blind shark catches a fish every once in a while. And taking cleveland to 7 games? You kidding me?
Yeah but T-mac had a weak cast in orlando and they won like 19 or 21 games one year. And yes I know it was other years that he took Orlando to the playoffs with a very weak supporting cast.
They asked him to tank check this out he was playing like this and they still lost. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_yMPYW1cLs0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_yMPYW1cLs0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Lebron had to face the entire Celtics defense. Lebron had to guard Paul Pierce by himself. And Lebron STILL almost won that game (and the series) w/ a missed layup in the final seconds.
