Yes... completely normal for William Barr to intercede and make sure Manafort isn’t transferred. That doesn’t further the narrative that Barr is a spineless Trump stooge at all. Bernie Madoff is (or was) at Rikers. In fact most federal convicts awaiting arraignment in NY are kept at Rikers. He is a multiple felon, including conspiracy to defraud the USA. He is a major criminal and is facing state charges for defrauding NY out of hundreds of millions of dollars. The idea that he shouldn’t go to Rikers with everyone else is foolish. A crime is a crime.
The Donald is a footnote in Manefort's career. He was professional lobbyist who specialized in the worst, most murderous psychotic dictators that could buy him. He has played Tinder for most of the shady scumbags that the USA has "swiped right" on in the last 40 years. Of course he robbed almost all of his clients with fake fees and "insider deals" and bribes that never existed... He was pretty much a walking cliche of the 80's amoral weasel dealmaker. He's never killed anybody, but he got rich helping others commit genocide, and he's never lost a night's sleep over it.
I also have to laugh at this idea (that mostly white men have) that white collar criminals should be spared going to places such as Rikers. Manafort is a sociopath that hurt people, hurt his country and committed felonies. His crimes are serious. If he was caught selling drugs or stealing cars, he would be in GP at a prison. Sending him to a low level prison in Pennsylvania is just an example of the double standard.
No the reason is because the person committed crimes deserving of imprisonment. The fact that you feel that some criminals shouldn't be held accountable is telling.
Rikers is not a prison facility as it is a temporary holding place before transfer or for prisoners with short term stays. It also isn't one facility but more akin to a city of jails for different needs (and types of criminals). You are reacting to the sensationalization you get from the media.
