Unfortunately, it was as I feared... preparing the public for another relatively light sentence... between the time already served and the bulk being concurrent, Manafort gets out in less than seven years.
So... factoring time off for "good behavior"... So while the sentence seems incredibly light for someone convicted of serious felonies, at least he will be going to prison, and it makes the trump argument for a pardon more difficult since he shouldn't be able to argue the sentence was "excessive" or unfair.
He didn't in the first sentencing... perhaps he somehow thought/knew that judge would sentence more leniently.
Seems like a relatively just sentence to me. Defrauding the government is wrong and now he will give up 6 or so years for doing so. Good.
Jackson gave an appropriate sentence. It's not her fault that Tillis is a partisan hack and only gave 4 of the potential 20 year sentence.
I don't think Trump considers what rationalizations he'll offer until after he announces his decisions.
Most of this additional sentence appears to be concurrent. So, if I'm doing the math correctly: 47 months - Ellis 43 months - Berman 90 months total 30 months concurrent 60 months net So that means 5 years - not 7.5 years. Essentially she tacked on 1 additional year.
Now it's on to the State of New York. Dude's gonna die in prison.
