This trade is looking better and better to me. I could see D'Antoni liking Morris and his near 40% from 3 pt range. LA needs more youth and outside shooting for their new system. Lin/Machado Harden/Delfino Parsons/Delfino Gasol/Jones/Donatas Asik/Smith/Donatas
yep, i think that's how the deal would look, more or less. The question is, would the Lakers do it before the deadline, or would they stay firm and wait for the offseason (replace expirings with cap space in that case).
The Lakers would either have to trade or waive some more players to take in all those expiring contracts. They are maxed out at 15 right now. In theory, they'd probably waive Darius Odom-Johnson and maybe Devin Ebanks but that's still not enough roster space and the Lakers are supposed to be contenders. If Pau is traded to the Rockets, I would be surprised if that deal happens without Lin in that trade. Nash is out for a while, so Lin can fill in the time being and go back to developing on the bench when Nash returns. Lakers fans are also fixated on Ryan Anderson right now. Ironic if a 3-team trade happens that involves LAL, Houston, and NO again.
I'm sure they'd love him but I don't see them trading their only viable PG. IMO Morris + Patterson plus a ton of salary tax relief next season is equal value, especially as Gasols value continues to decrease after a prolonged stay in D'Antonis doghouse.
If the Rockets can somehow get them a package of Ryan Anderson + Lin + filler, Pau Gasol would be a Rocket.
What about if J smith and Korver go to LA, Gasol comes here, and Morris, Ppat, fillers, less restriction on our pick, and cap space go to ATL? Can that even work?
That would work but I don't see the Hawks taking that package. They'd want more draft picks and younger talent. I'd ask for Terrence Jones if I were them.
they may be fixated, but how would they get him? I don't think there's a deal out there that would turn Gasol into Anderson. He's 24, on a contract that looks very good right now, and his value is going up daily.
Seasons still early, but the Hornets aren't going anywhere so his value could drop as time goes by. All of this is speculation anyway, even with Gasol struggles at times, he's still a very good player. Lakers still need to improve their bench and assets like Morris/Pat don't really do much for them, especially with no PG who can really run that offense.
I wish Morey would get over his Gasol Obsession...the only Gasol worth having is Marc and hes not going anywhere
I don't see it. Anderson is 24. What are the Hornets going to do, replace him with 'youth' like 23 year olds Patterson and Marcus Morris? Anderson looks like a core long term piece for the Hornets, a team would have to overpay to get him.
Sure he does, that's why the Lakers would probably love to have Anderson too and not the package that was just suggested revolving Rockets bench players.
Especially after today 34 pts on 8/13 on 3's, 11 rbds... I would rather Ryan Anderson in a Rockets uniform than Pau right now.
Of course, Kevin Love would be another perfect fit. The Lakers aren't going to trade Pau Gasol unless it's for another impact player. They don't need the cap space since they're looking to win now and I don't think the Rockets have enough to offer to get Pau.
Pls no Gasol. Dude is constantly getting exploit in pick n roll every year in the Playoffs. He's too slow and doesn't play aggressive basketball.
Maybe, maybe not. Most of the current Pau chatter is about luxury tax. If they keep their current roster, their payroll next year (including tax) will be at ~$200 mil. They can save a ton by amnestying Artest and trading Pau for a cheaper 3 and 4.
