Hmmmm, wasn't aware of that. If that is true, then forget it. We need to look at Charlotte and see if we can get Emeka off them along with Wallace and somebody else.
If scola has that kind of money in europe, he should go. He is not going to get anywhere close to that here. If milsap and scola were on the market at the same time, milsap would get more money. I like scola and he has some moves and he plays hard, but when teams don't double yao, he struggles. Against La, he shot 40% from the field. To his credit he still competes and rebounds, but he's splitting time with Carl and there have been times when landry has finished the game. How many time have u seen a 9m starter splitting minutes and not finishing games?
Redd, Jefferson, Hamilton, Prince. These should be what rockets look to trade for. Dominant center should be surrounded with 3 point shooters. Magic prove that.
Carlos Boozer Yao Ming the more I think about it, this happens countless times. It's a league of matchups. Good coaches don't play the payroll, they play the team that gives them the best shot at winning that night. Allen Iverson TJ Ford (he may not be at 9 mill)
They also got Mark Gasol in return, who is a young and very solid player. Pau isn't young and they weren't going nowhere. They essentially traded Gasol for 4 first rounds pick and cap relief, which was the best deal at the time.
Kwame was the biggest expiring contract that offseason. Various teams can come up with a multiple players combination but that's always difficult to operate. Even George of Mavs could veto a trade. They got Marc Gasol in return, I honestly don't think they could get back a better young big man with cap relief.
Magic gave TM for SF, and SF faded quickly and they shipped him out. They got nothing other than cap relief, and look at what they are now. When you are not winning with your superstar, shake it up. Memphis ain't Boston and they don't care if it benefits Lakers.
Well, I hardly consider trading away Shane Battier to be much of a risk. Mind you, this is back in his Memphis days before he was universally accepted as one of the best defenders and overall role players in the league. Back then he was just a somewhat disappointing former top ten pick averaging 10-5 that was probably deemed easily replaceable. Somebody a talent like Rudy Gay could easily replace and then some. That really doesn't amount to much of a gamble in my book. (Mind you, I am huge Battier defender and fan. Just saying I definitely got the perception that his value was only recognized and appreciated once he got traded to the Rockets and his role/exposure became more prevelant.) We're just going to have to agree to disagree. I still contend that the Grizzlies are a hapless franchise without any sense of direction. Barring any drastic changes in ownership or the economy (doubtful), I'll be absolutely STUNNED if the Grizzlies capitalize on their ridiculously low $30M-something payroll for 2009-2010. I would almost bet the house that they sell away at least one of their draft picks this year. They'll probably take Rubio then watch him linger for 2-3 years until he's actually NBA ready. That is, if they actually stand pat at #2 and don't trade down and find a way to go even cheaper by packaging Jaric and/or Darko's contracts along with the #2 pick for even more cap relief. It's no coincidence they're rock bottom in league payroll. Don't be surprised if that figure continues to plummet. Understatement of the century.
