He played big, like he should, on the block he had late. However, that was on a midget and against big guys he's marshmallowy. Time to put your big boy pants on Pat. For the whole game.
You know that old saying about really good or legendary players usually make the worst teachers/coaches? Patterson had only one season with Adelman and how he develops is going to be a reflection of McHale's system. It isn't looking good for the kid so far besides him being another finesse big man.
Seriously Greg Smith, Terrence Jones, and Mook all deserve more playing time over Patterson after last night's game. Pat's man to man defense was atrocious in last night's game. Patterson's defense made Dahntay Jones look like prime Vince Carter last night. 2Pat Suckur needs to sit down somewhere.
FWIW (which may not be much), here is a complete list of NBA players this season who are averaging 13 or more points per game, averaging 5 or more rebounds per game, shooting 50% or better and have made at least 10 3-pointers: Lebron James Kevin Durant Patrick Patterson I kid you not.
But, but he doesn't "look" cool when he dunks, and I can't drop 50 with him on 2k12. Patterson isn't the sexiest basketball player in the world. Nothing about him screams show time. However he's going to be in the league for a long time. You can't say that a about the guys a good majority of posters have wanted instead of 2pat. If it was up to the fans, Hassan Whiteside would be the Rockets starting pf because he "looks" like Garnett.
He got posterized today and fell on his butt...he should of just fouled but went for the block. Players need to learn some things from old school players like Charles Oakley.
amnestying Scola was a mistake. He was only in his early 30s, and the rockets could have a least traded scola to get a better player than patterson in a trade.
Scola is 32. Also, Scola is a tough asset to trade. He is the type of player that championship teams want but lottery teams don't. Championship teams have nothing of value to give back to you in most cases, add on the fact that Scola is aging, there really isn't much you could do with him.
Rockets are also dumb for not playing T Jones. How are you gonna bench a player that averaged 17 rebounds a game in the D-League? That's six more rebounds than JaJuan Johnson's D-League average. JaJuan's played alot more D-Leageu games than Jones though, but both im pretty sure are btter rebounders than Patterson. who in the hell needs a scoring four? 96 pulls thrived with a rebounding, defensive minded power forward. damn near every power forward off the rocket's bench is a better rebounder than patterson.
Terrence Jones is better at creating his shot off the dribble, and can create matchup problems against opposing fours. All Pat does is just jack up midrange jumpers and three pointers. does that pump fake up and under post move that's only effective in 2k13, and always gets boxed out of position, or gets outmatched physically against bigger 4s. Pat is like a Horace Grant type with a three point jumper minus the length, man to man defense, and athleticism that made horact grant such a great serviable role player.
Had the Rockets NOT amnestied Scola 4 things would be apparent- -The Rockets still would not be a title contender by any stretch. -The Rockets would be worse defensively, and would not be able to stretch the floor as well with the spacing Patterson gives. -They would not have the 7 mil +cap space this season going into the trade deadline + the additional cap space next year to have an open slot for a max salary going forward. -The young PF's would have even more trouble getting minutes on the court. Yes, we all miss Scola, but it was something that the team had to do to put this team in a better position moving forward. Oh, and FYI... I was being sarcastic about Patterson.
