They're getting old, for sure, but they're still f'ing people up. That still qualifies as being stacked. For sure, they need to start drafting the replacements. Evan
well, they're PLAYING like they're stacked. besides they've already matched the Cowboys in Superbowls during the 90s, and wil probably surpass them this year.
wasn't trying to insult their defense, they play well as a unit. seau was washed up in san diego, he's found new life. its really a function of coaching. plus, the offense gets up so fast, that the opposition is always in a position you know what's coming. that makes it easy on the defense. in the dallas game, the defense didn't look like all that because dallas kept up the pace till the fourth quarter.
BTW the Patriots are looking at a possible top 3 pick next year thanks to the 49ers. Imagine them with Dorsey or McFadden even Laurinaitis would be plenty to replenish their aging linebacker unit. The rich keep getting richer
The Pats are the modern day Raiders without the anti-social attitude. They acquire older, seemingly washed up players and rejuvenate their careers.
What (and when) was the trade that got them the 49ers' pick? I can't recall anyone of significance going to SF recently. Seems like a really dumb thing to do for a franchise that has struggled for the past several years.
It was this past draft. The 49'ers badly wanted Joe Staley who was still available late in the 1st round. The 49ers gave up their 4th for 2007 (traded to Oakland for Randy Moss) and their 1st for 2008. They badly overpaid. In other words, they turned the 28th pick in 2007 into Randy Moss and what is shaping up to be a top 5 pick in 2008. It's not fair I tell ya.
coaching and talent evaluation, corey dillon anyone? just a hell uv a front office. they have played the economics of the modern nfl perfectly. think about how bad a cap situation casserly left the texans in, and casserly supposed to be a cap guru.
Wow. Morons. At the very best, they were going to be a 0.500 type team this year, so they were looking at a #15 type pick. No wonder these kinds of franchises suck year-in and year-out.
The Patriots understand better than anybody in the NFL that the influx of talent each year in free agency market is greater than any other sports. Nothing is completely guaranteed aside the signing bonus so you can easily acquire good players if you are patient enough not to lock up the cap. Look at all the teams in bottom of standings, they all have bad management locking up cap by giving a ton of money to players they are too afraid to lose. New England lost all of their best receivers in the offseason but quickly grabbed huge upgrades because they knew how to be patient and play your cards right. Any other franchise would have panicked and overpaid average wide receivers.
That is just sick! They will probably end up getting pick 2-5 in the draft. Unless there is a lineman they just have to take, we all know what will happen. They will trade the pick for two MORE later first rounders and select two starter-capable players who will replace a couple of veteran free agents looking for big money. In this instance, the rich got richer because they were smarter and were lucky the 49ers cratered this year. Count me as one who drank the 49ers Kool-Aid and thought they would be decent.
One of the things that amazes me about the Patriots is how when an offensive play fails, they will often try the exact same play on the very next snap and get it to work. Same formation, same players, everything. It's ridiculous. E.g. last night, on one of the few times Brady had an incomplete pass, an outside route for Welker that was broken up by a corner. They ran the exact same play on the next snap for Welker again and he ended up with like a 25 yard gain. And the weird thing was that I was actually expecting them to do it.
