any team who relies on patrick patterson to contribute night in and night out isn't deserving to get into the playoffs
he is a jumpshooting undersized PF. We need a post threat to draw doubleteams. He shoots to many FT line jumpers and has lot of trouble guarding players 1 on 1 in post.
Feel the same, add blocks and rebounds to the negative aspects. Dude averages just 4 rebounds and 0.6 blocks in 23 minutes, now what I expect from a PF.
Totally agree with the sentiment that his current style of play is not ideal. If he doesn't decide to improve his rebounding efficiency and get more FT's, then he is heading down the road to becoming a 'dime a dozen' type of player. On a more individual level, PPAT really needs to think about what kind of production will prompt people to give him a SERIOUS contract. Clearly he can shoot, and he has the physical presence to play inside, it is really upto him how he molds his game. Though I do wonder if he's following instructions or still not fully healed. Not easy to come back from injury (and compressed games schedule).
Last year he was the most efficient rookie in the league. He was more productive, per minute of play, than any rookie in the NBA. He started this year with an injury that proved to be more troubling than first thought, and had to hit the ground running in a new system. Clearly he hasn't taken that next step like we hoped he would, but I really do think he's got the skill-set necessary to improve his post game and become the player we need him to be. If we still see the same thing next year, i'll be convinced that he's just a roll player, but considering it's only his second year of development, that he's adjusting to a new system, and that he started slow coming off injury in a shortened season, I think he more than deserves the benifit of the doubt. I would also like to see what he can do with starters' minutes on a consistant basis.
