We hit a homerun with that pick, much like Cuttino Mobley when we got him in the 2nd round. Sometimes you get lucky... But you have to recall the guys that didn't develop like that too.....not everyone is a hit.... We are lucky to have DM as our GM. DD
1 inch is the difference between being a prototypical power forward or being undersized. Or so it seems.
Ok bosh is good right? but i dont see why all of the "rockets fans" are so willing to give up great aspects of are team for him. I mean the sqad we had w/0 Yao gave us a winning season. More than what Bosh provided for his team in a weaker confer. Think about it?? Are sqad now + Yao + a better Hill + PP! WOW!
Otis Thorpe had a career 55% field goal percentage, if this dude is Otis Thorpe, then we're on our way to the championship! Plus OT was an all star. http://www.basketball-reference.com/allstar/NBA_1992.html
OT was one the best finishers off the break and in the half-court i've seen at the 4 position. His Connie Hawkins like ability to palm the ball definitely went a long way for OT.
Agreed. Not every one of DM's picks was a hit, but the ones that were not were late first rounders or second rounders. That being said, Patterson is the 14th pick which is the highest pick Morey has ever had. Thus, I think a lot of people expect a lot out of Patterson. I don't think it's 100% fair to expect just as much or more of him than say, Carl Landry. But I do think it's fair to expect him to develop into an above average player
Where did you get this number from. I've never seen anyone grab the ball like Thorpe did and I'm including Shaq.
i think the otis thorpe comparison is a bit premature O.T. WAS A MAN among men could set a pick &roll so well it was automatic 2 points if p.p. can emulate O.T. OR Landry i will be very satisfied but i think D.M.is getting stonewalled by other teams& i expect another bad offseason ala-ariza/Anderson i think Treavor may workout&comback strong this year but i don't see anderson w/ the team for a full 2nd season
I remember seeing OT at Pappadeaux's during that 93-94 Phoenix series vs Barkley. It was a late afternoon, and he was there eating with his lady. I was 19 at the time and went over to tell him he was having a great series and that they were going to win. It was sometime between game 4-6. I shook his hand, and recall it was massive. He was very polite and just smiled with a sheepish grin and thanked me for my complements and confidence in the team. He did have a great series. Probably his best ever.
The number indicated for Patterson is 19.50 which is both hands added together. Divide that by 2 and voila! 9.75...
For real. I've never seen anyone throw a basketball like OT - it was really freaky seeing it in person.
If his offense is close to Boozer, then he is already a steal at #14. Surprised OKC didn't ask for Patterson, but asked for Aldrich instead...
....well OT was a 9th pick in a 24 team league and Patterson was 14 in a 30 team league(and projected to go higher than he did). Relatively, I don't think there is that much of a difference between where they were picked. I think Patterson may have more upside than people give him credit for. I don't think he will ever be a superstar, but he was productive despite having to give the spotlight to Cousins and Wall. I know OT was an all-star, but let's face it - he was a fan favorite and the ultimate sideman but never a real "star". Patterson is certainly cut from that same mold. Let's also not forget that OT was not an overnight success either. He was in the league 3 years before he really blossomed(before he came to Houston). I like the Patterson pick especially because I'm not really sold on anyone in the draft outside of the top 5. Morey didn't have a lot to work with and Patterson seemed as good a value as anyone there and a lot safer bet. Taking a guy who will likely contribute now and be a solid role player in the future in a weak draft(well top heavy at least) should be considered a success.
I think this year's new buzzword was "wingspan". Since nearly all of the PFs were in the 6-8 to 6-9 region, the word used to atone for their lack of true size was wingspan. It's as if their having a wingspan around 7' could actually make up for the fact that said player is not 6-10 or better in height. BTW, Otis Thorpe was 6-10 and 225 Lbs.
Yeah, I've said before (somewhere here) that it's like he was handling an orange. Just mind-blowing to watch. He would sometimes windmill his arm holding the ball, as he figured out where he was going to pass it. Of course, he did that in a fraction of a second. And downcourt passes in the transition game, starting a break? OT was damn near matchless in that department. Patterson is supposed to have some of the largest hands in this draft and, most important, they're supposed to be good hands. He knows what to do with them. Someone with the Rocks should lock him in a room with film of OT. Nice comparison, knote32.
I remember OT having short arms with a long body and big ass hands. That is why he didn't get too many blocked shots, but thats 15 years and many pounds of weed ago.
patterson seems like a good guy...hope he brings toughness, defense, hustle and work ethic to the table.
OK, I see what happened. I thought you were originally referring to OT when you were referring to Patterson. What you are doing is incorrect. The calculation is based on length added to width. His length is 9.25 and his width is 10.25 which gives him 19.50. The rumor about OT is that his length was between 12-13 inches which is a good 3 inches longer than Patterson.
