I dont think any of you remember how athletic Mcdyess used to be..PPat isnt anywhere near that level. I think that Antonio Davis (Pacer days not Bulls days) is a better comparison..or maybe even what Haslem used to be.

Really, I think people are comparing him to Dice in his after knee surgery years. Antonio had a 42" vertical back in the days, at 6'10" with a 42" vertical you do the math.
I honestly like the McDyess comparisons. I just hope he doesn't have the same injury (that word still makes me cringe) problems. Pat Pat is the same height, weighs 10 pounds less, and he could average similar numbers.
Antawn is not a natural PF. He is kinda one of those tweeners who are SF and PF. Antawn has a decent perimiter game too, he can take players on from top of the key and dribble past them, plus he can nail the three. i dont really like bigs who rely on 15 footers rather than working down low. To me, they take the easier way out rather than choosing to grind and tough it out. Personally, I would like to see Patterson become more of a low post player. He needs to be develop his back to the basket game further. I wanna see him turn into a Karl Malone or Charles Barkley type player. Id like to see him learn some fancy footwork and low post moves from Hakeem and Scola.
Unfortunately Adelman can't develop players, so this can't happen. The Rockets had a HOF player on their hands, but Adelman had to come along and screw it up.
Was just about to say something along these lines... Patterson definitely has the toughness and defensive advantage. Jamison was a better offensive player, though. Hopefully Pat can reach that level offensively.
I don't think he's quite the rebounder and scorer Millsap is. So far Patterson has a very consistent midrange jumper, but he'd have to expand his offensive arsenal.
PPat is really exciting me for sure, I only wish the guy were 1 inch taller. He just seems like his ceiling is to be the ultimate roll-player/starter. I'm not saying he can't be something more, but it will be much harder for him being only 6'9"...
I like the pre I jury mcdyess comparison though I believe Antonio was far more athletic but pat is stronger I believe. Don't really agree with the Jamison comparison though if Pat develops that half hook floater Jamison has I would be very pleased
Before the draft he was compared as Buck Williams. Now I compare him as the younger version of McDyess
you ppl comparing 2pat to former all stars is a little stretch... jamison was a 2x all star and came out of college with alot of ppl believing he was better than vince carter. jamison is a 6'9 tweener pf.....his more natural position was the 3 but was strong enough to play the 4 and usually would be able to beat the opposing 4 with his dribble. mcdyess out of college was a monster. his athleticism is more than what patpat has. mcdyess came out of college with alot of ppl arguing he should've been the #1 pick. (it was between him, stackhouse, joe smith, and sheed)...it was also unconventional for kevin garnett to go at #5 cause most ppl didn't draft out of HS at that point.....if it were common...KG would've went #1 if that draft took place 6 years later. as a previous poster wrote....man, i'm only 25 and this thread makes me feel old. good thing i've been in love with basketball since i was 7.
Antonio McDyess was an explosive, dunking, shot blocking athletic freak when he came into the NBA. Honestly, young McDyess was closer to a Blake Griffin type with better defense. I like P-Pat a lot, but he is not the same type of player.
