Terrence Jones snatched a rebound away from Asik last night. Don't ever recall Pat snatching a rebound from anyone.

Shane Battier was arguably the best team defender in his prime of his era... wake me up when Patrick Patterson is the best at anything in the NBA besides sucking at rebounding. Also, if Patrick Patterson had Luis Scola's heart, he would be Luis Scola with hops. Ie, two of the elder statesman mentioned above never took the night off. One can only pray that PPat take after their professionalism and over-achieve as they have in spite of their limited athleticism.

Patrick Patterson's rebounding numbers are a joke. The rebounding numbers on the Rockets box score should tell you who should be starting at the 4 right there. Jones, and Smith both got 8 boards, but 2Pat Suckur only got one rebound.

That statement completely ignores the facts. Dirk has averaged 8.3 boards and 1 block per game, despite being basically a guard on offense. His defensive rebound rate is better than Aldridge and Bosh, and almost twice Patterson's. Also, Harden and Lin are both averaging more blocks than Patterson.

His rebounding problem is notorious now. But I actually think that he fits well with our starting lineup. All the other 4 guys are very good rebounders for their respective positions. So his deficiency is not that much of a problem. And his mid range shot and post game are needed to keep the offensive pressure off the guards.

But when Asik sits, Patterson needs to get off the court too because we can't afford the lack of rebounding inside.

It's strange b/c I think he has a ton of ability to be a great post defender.

Rebounding is about positioning and effort. He is fairly undersized for his position but if Kevin Durant can average 10+ boards a game, he should be able to average more than 5 boards a game. Hopefully he'll get better.

Terrence Jones had an astonishing four (4!) of his shots blocked in 30 minutes last night. That's pretty terrible, to be honest. Glen Davis degrees of terrible.

Each of these power forwards on the Rockets' roster is deeply flawed in some fundamental way. If you play one, it comes with the consequence of losing what the others can bring.

It would be great if they could all be combined into just One Guy who had the whole package: shooting touch, athleticism, post defending skills, rebounding acumen, pick N roll utility, etc.

But until that player materializes in a trade or develops by way of playing time, the Rockets must make do with what they have.

I disagree with this whole notion of scapegoating Patterson for all of Houston's ills. There are threads literally titled "Who is to blame?" on this message board right now, and the poll seems to imply that people like Patterson "are to blame."

For what, not being the complete player at the 4 the Rockets have been trying to obtain for years now, even though he's shown remarkable improvement as a scorer? It's the dumbest thing. The dumbest thing.

to be fair, with Asik doing the dirty work (by getting all the boards), Patterson's primary purpose on the starting 5 is to box out, especially that Lin, Parsons and Harden are good rebounders for their position, though it would be interesting to see Patterson's rebounding stat/percentage/projection without Asik....

Its what I said about getting "alike" personlities. I said he was a backseat type of player. Its nothing wrong with having guys like that, just can't have a team full of them.Just like you can't have a team of fools. Even in team building a young squad, you need guys who want to be the best and are willing to put in the work to be the best. From a talent point, patterson is comparable to david west, paul milsap, and carl landry, but from a aggressiveness and assertiveness point,he's nowhere close. Look at milsap, landry, and west improvement from yr 1 to 2 to 3 and put that against patterson and morris. By yr 2, landry was 2nd in 4th qt scoring and a go to guy. Milsap was literally pushing boozer out the door. West was trending toward a reconizable name. This is yr 3 and patterson is nowhere close to the career path of those guys.

I don't know if it's just me and the plays I'm concentrating on, but I'm actually less concerned about Patterson's rebounding than the fact that he doesn't seem to be able to set a good screen? Can someone confirm this impression? Because it feels to me like his timing's always off (usually peels off too quick) and either Harden or Lin would have to compensate for it, and then it gives them trouble in the paint.

I dont want imagine what Charles Oakley, Anthony Mason or Charles Barkley would do to Pat in a matchup under the boards. Did Pat learn anything from Chuck Hayes???

I feel PPat is actually a good player. But I don't feel he fits the mold for what we want. If we want to be a fast break team then TJ or Morris better fill the role. He is a better 15 foot jump shooter than TJ, but I don't feel I am sold on that
