Patterson isn't scrawny like D-Mo, he's a pretty big dude. Not sure why he's so afraid of getting dirty in the paint and fighting for rebounds. Maybe the muscles are just for show...(no homo)
He's only dude on or team with a post game, but man those rebounding stats are terrible! Sampson needs to call him out more so he chews up the glass.
Dirk Nowitzki says hello. At least Patrick can hit an open jumpshot. He doesn't get a lot of rebound, because he box out his man unlike our PG who gamble on help defense and rebounds all game. And for you haters who are saying that he can't block shots: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/jm4UcqrWI8Y" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
You can find videos of Muggsy or Boykins making a block, what does that prove? He's averagin 0.6 blocks and 6.1 rebounds per 36min as a starting PF, it's embarassing. Plus he's one of the worst guys in the league at drawing fouls. Plus Pat is notorious for not boxin out in many situations and being soft. Dirk can score at will, draws fouls and gets more rebounds and blocks, plus bangs inside on offense.
So five minutes of a couple defensive breakdowns makes him a bad defender when he plays 36 mins a game? Asik would not have stopped the layups either. Transition defence is another topic, he goes for offensive rebounds so it is realistic that his man will get open on transition. It is the job for the other people to communicate and split the difference until he gets back.
Patterson should come off the bench with a rebounding big or swing man. We does play very well with Asik who covers up for him but once Asik sit she is a glaring problem.
Patterson is fine as a bench player, but is not a starting PF on a playoff team. I think he has some trade value. I'd trade him for a back up PG and cut Toney Douglas.
Interesting but I think there are some problems between Pat and one or some of the players. I wonder who he's referring to? "...we just started getting a little bit selfish on the offensive end. It seemed like players were trying to make plays in order to get back in the game, rather than just keep going with the system..." Any ideas?
I think at this point, Morris deserves to be the starter, even if he is a better fit with the second unit. And I think if Terrence Jones keeps getting better, then the days of Patterson are limited to February. He is a nice player, but I do not think we will get a lot for him. Trade him for a "seasoned veteran".
