howard isn't even as good as ewing...

ewing was a GREAT player, just because dream was better doesn't mean pat wasn't any good.

Since Ewing could never "see" Hakeem (think of Hakeem waving his hand in front of his face after schooling Ewing--I know he would never have done it, but it's a fun thought), I'm not sure any comparison Ewing makes could be valid. :D

do you guys even know who patrick ewing is?

for a lot of his career if you'd asked around the NBA ewing > hakeem. probably until around 93-94. ewing is the one who won the NCAA title not dream and a lot of people hands down considered ewing the elite center in the NBA until houston won back to back

the main problem with ewing is that he has a bit of that tmac/yao mental issue. ewing took a LOT of last minute shots and MISSED. he took the knicks to the finals but most people thought he should have and could have done more. he was always missing shots, or getting blocked by mugsy or taking 2-0 series leads and blowing em

I'm actually a bit surprised by the ignorance on this board by the newer cats... there were a good 5-10 years that ewing was considered the best center in the league. he ended his career a bit like dirk though... awesome regular seasons but a bit disappointing at clutch time but he was considered among the best in the league for many years

it's like 10 years from now dudes who only saw shaq in phoenix in 08 or stinking it up in miami will be on here dissing him saying how he's violating the big man's ordinance and shouldn't be allowed to even talk about carrying Howard, Oden or Yao's jock

That's a good point, Howard's game is a lot like Dawkins'. I think Howard has more to his arsenal. But he ain't Hakeem by any means--different game, different level.

I think Ewing is just doing what any coach would do by encouraging his young player. He did the same for Yao. I think the rox should hire Hakeem as a coach for Yao. Rather learn from Dream than Ewing since we know who was better.

New Yorkers, idiots, and media pundits (is that redundant?) thought Patrick Ewing was better than Hakeem or Akeem. People who knew basketball knew that Ewing was a distant second in the big man pecking order, and by the mid-nineties had dropped to third.

Hakeem was the best offensivly and defensivly, D12 is far behind him. Hakeem was able to hit the 15 foots jumper and had much more agility, he was amazing for his size.

Ewing was a great center made "greater" by playing in NY. Dream was always a better player than him but never got the national media attention because he played in a much smaller media market in Houston and quite frankly was hard to market as well because of his accent. Dream let his play on the court do all the talking.

Its not fair for these young players like Dwight to be compared to the greats of the past let them be their own player. Dwight is a great rebounder and a shot blocker because of his freakish athleticism and size. Dream was a just as good as Dwight if not better because of his timing and athleticism. Dream will never have or had Dwight's strength and size but Dwight will never have the agility, creativity and skills that Hakeem had.

If i had to compare Dwight to a center of the past I would actually see him as David Robinson (pre injuries) but the admiral had a much better jumper than Dwight has right now

It sickened me and made me lose respect for JVG when he had Ewing working on the Rockets coaching staff. It made no sense to me because judging by what I saw first hand at the games plus what every other source has said, Ewing didn't do jack when it came to coaching here. How the most win-obsessed coach in the world allows a complete loser, bum on his staff is beyond me.

You could go to the games and watch Ewing's eyes wander back and forth from the jumbotron to the power dancers during timeouts while everyone else was huddled around JVG.
