Basketball is a team game. But as far as the team is concerned he fits better with the starting unit better whether people like it or not Harden is ball dominate guard and that is not going to change. Lin's playmaking is better suited off the bench. Beverley is better bringing the ball up feeding the post and getting out of the way and posting up on the 3 point line with occassional drives and probes into the lane.
I understand the sentiment that Lin should be our starting PG, but this petty nitpicking Beverley for every damn little thing he does gets on my nerve.
OK. I know where this thread is going. Lin is a TO machine who barely has more assists than TOs. When it comes to defending the ball, Beverly blows him away. Lin's shooting has improved so far and hopefully that trend continues. But, seriously, blaming Lin's problems on coaching is silly. Neither PG is "complete" and the Rockets will just have to live with that.
They bring a lot more than Lin ever will. D-Wade was a TO machine 8 years ago when the Heat won their first championship but he was the horse that pulled the wagon. Role players like Lin can't afford to be TO machines.
man why does every thread turn into a Lin love/hate thread. This is about Patrick and his over aggressiveness on defense at times. my goodness. You guys are killing the garm and killing these threads where we can have real legitimate discussion about real issues not this petty back and forth.
On topic, Beverly will figure this out. He isn't the first player CP3 goaded into foul trouble to get out of a game. He better figure it out because the Rockets need him on the floor pressuring the ball, especially against ball-dominant PGs like CP3.
This isn't even worth discussing and definitely not a major issue. The hard part is having that intensity naturally. The easy part is learning to contain it. Worry about things he has no control over.
He did play great. He was actually one of the FEW brightspots tonite. This thread was made out of hatred for the fact he's starting of Lin. Last game CP destroyed us with little resistance. Tonite Bev played him better than anybody I've seen. Bev's probably the best defensive pg in the league right now
Just because somebody doesn't agree with your views on Jeremy Lin doesn't mean the thread is "going somewhere".
Rondo is going to be pretty nice other that he cannot shoot but at least we can't trot out Harden Parsons Asik and Howard 3 guys that can't shoot and Parsons/Harden are streaky
The 2 main problems I have with Beverly are: 1) he doesn't fight through picks as well as people think/say. He get's picked off time and time again and just gives up on some plays once he runs into a screen 2) if his man doesn't have the ball, he doesn't play D on them. Instead, he will float around in between his man and near the paint hoping to take a swipe at the ball and get a steal. While it's good that he puts some pressure on the ball carrier and may occasionally get a steal, what ends up happening more than not is that his guy ends up being wide open and when they rotate the ball back to his man, the whole team has to react to this guy who has been left open. I know that when he did this in the playoffs it was to allegedly disrupt Durant (and it's arguable if that really worked) but he's been doing it in every game this season. He just needs to stay on his man and not try to always be on the ball.
Is it just me or did anybody notice that Bev plays better with Lin and no Harden in the lineup, than with both Lin and Harden in the lineup?
Not only are Parsons/Harden streaky, but they are one of the main reasons we are so horrendous on defense.
I'd rather he plays like that and be effective before fouling out rather than playing it safe and not be effective at all.
