Patrick Beverley has one major issue and it is MAJOR. When he plays against elite point guards he gets a little too excited and over anxious and gets into foul trouble. Last year against the clippers he got in foul trouble against cp3. Also in the playoffs against russell westbrook he got in foul trouble in the first game. He needs to just relax play his normal game and not try to do too much. He knows how to play defense especially on the ball. Just Relax Patrick and you don't need to prove you can lock down the elite pg's and it seems that is what he is trying to prove. Jacking Jrue Holiday 4 times in two minutes proved to us you are darn good defender. He needs to learn the fine line between good aggressive defense and being a pest. And getting too excited and being overly physical with point guards he is guarding. He was doing great in the first half being that pest and in the 3rd quarter he went overboard with his aggression and received two quick fouls (his 3rd and 4th) and had to sit the rest of the 3rd. Rockets went into a downward spiral shortly afterwards and lost! He needs do what he can to keep himself in these games and impact the game that we know he is capable of.
Another issue he is not a complete player. 3 pointer, Court vision, dribble and Defense too much to ask for
yeah overall he is good but he need to stay cool that 2 quick fouls get us 4 team fouls, afterwards every foul is 2 FT in the rest of 3Q it's hard to defend and clippers exploit that catch up and over turn by those FTs.
Beverley's fouls in the early 3rd quarter hurt them bad later on in the quarter in the 18-0 run: 1). Clippers were shooting 2 free throws after every foul. 2). Rockets were taking the ball from out the bounds instead of from a rebound. The offense could not get into a rhythm.
All those are pretty good. His court vision is not better than Lin's. He can hit the three at a pretty good clip if he is left open. He made his name as an energy guy but CP3 is smart he is going to turn your strenghth into a weakness and that is exactly what he did. He played Beverley like an instrument. Baited him into that 4th foul and Patrick bit like a fish.
3pointer, court vision and playmaking are suspect. Those are the main strengths of a modern PG in the NBA
Its not an issue because he works off of Harden or Lin because that is not his strength. They are the playmakers when he is on the court for the most part. Plus I said MAJOR issue. Those are smaller issues.
Just have to face the fact the Rockets PGs aren't that good and neither is worthy of being a starter. Simple as that. Beverly would be a very good role-player coming off the bench, which is the same role Lin is best suited for. Rockets have to hope one of them grows up during the season and takes control of the position. Next summer, maybe Morey can get a "complete player" to start at PG.
Bev would make an incredible role player. He just isn't a complete enough player to be a starter for this team.
Lets see, Lin can shoot the three, drive to the basket, he is a good play maker - 7 assist today, and he plays good D. I think he is a starting point guard in the NBA. We just need a coach that knows how to coach better.
