Lin did a very good job on Mo William last night, especially in the first half. Late in crunch time Bev had a couple of defensive mistake, Got blown by Lillard twice and forgot to box him out for the rebound, that's about it. No doubt Bev is the best backcourt defender on the Roster, but let's not underrate Lin
Not saying Beverley or anyone on the list is not deserving. But why is this a media voting? I think of all the categories, defense should be voted by players (or maybe coaches). What do the media people know about how good a defensive player is? There's no dependable publicly assessable metric for individual defense. As subjective as it is, the only people who are remotely close to knowing the opponent's defensive prowess are the players themselves.
While Lin's not a great defender, I wouldn't go that far. If he was truly a train wreck he would've allowed a marginal Mo Williams to go off, which he didn't. There's no way we win this series without Bev because of the aggressiveness, toughness, and energy he brings. However, if Bev does have to play relatively limited minutes, I think Lin would do a decent job in the meanwhile. But containing Lillard is more than just one person, it's a team effort.
Lin was fine defensively in the first game, but I have to comment on the logic you used to make your assessment. It just doesn't work how you said it. Just because a player doesn't go off in a game doesn't mean that the defense was good. Conversely just because a player goes off doesn't mean the defense was bad. Sometimes guys hit contested jumpers and sometimes guys miss wide open shots. There's just a lot more to it than "this guy didn't go off" so the defense must have been good.
I assume this was intended to be the screenshot you posted over and over again in other threads? If so, thanks -- because it shows that fewer of Lillard's points than I initially counted (13) were scored on Bev.
Yes, but if his defense is a "train-wreck" not only should the player he was guarding play at least decently well even if he's having an off game, but the Blazers should have kept going with the guy he's guarding to attack Lin. Neither of which really happened
I'm impressed that a few media people out there pay enough attention to know that PJ Tucker and Patrick Beverly are noteworthy. It looks like Bev may have a chance at first or second team all-defense!
Not often enough is it the insight, rather, it's the addiction to Rockets talk and an uncommon tolerance for people we wouldn't put up with in daily life that keeps us coming back here.
That alone should speak volumes. It's not just about a single player, or even two. It's a cohesive effort and is much more complicated than just sticking to your man.
