Those rebounds were HUGE. Big boy boards. ETA: Also forgot to mention -- very proud of him for not letting LeBron bait him into a second T when he purposely bumped him after their little squabble. Not sure he could've/would've ignored that last season.
After Pat got in the scuffle with Princess Lebron he came out in full force. Beverly, my old friend!!! ^Basketball Jones ref.
Is he wrong though? Are you sit there with a straight face and tell me that one good game from Bev, makes up for months of garbage?
Thats can be true (more for Ariza who actually had an overlooked good February) This thread is one of the few where it legitimately pointed out subpar play. Beverley hasnt had good play in 3 months. He's been getting worse and WORSE AND WORSE. There hasnt been any sprinkles of positive games from Bev Ariza is a defensive wing specialist who needs his shots restricted, can comfortably make him the 5th option. The team needs Beverley to be the 4th occasionally 3rd scoring option more than it needs Ariza's scoring.
It was great to see the Bev of old. BTW, can we not called our players garbage? Stuff like that is only deserving for players who quit on the team, and I think it applies to the old Lin thread as well. Regardless of how one may feel about a player, this is uncalled for because almost all NBA have their limitations.
i think you're on to something. In the West, it seems like every team has a legit scoring threat at PG and Beverly is chasing after these guys all night long. Tonight on defense he could a) rest up b) play help defense and c) leave his man to chase rebounds earlier. On a whim, i looked at his stats for last year and this year to see if there was a difference. http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/201976/career/ the only difference i found is that he seems to take and miss one more 3 per game than he did last year. Defensive Rebounding and Assists are up. Minutes played, blocks, steals, and TOV all seem about the same.
Gotta love Beverley!! That was a late slide by Bev, the foul was his (don't care what Hubie said), but LeBron and Mozgov were being b****es. I don't care what anybody says, you can objectively state that LeBron holding him down was straight up b**** move. When Bev is pissed, he's so much like Maxwell. He wants to take the shot and initiate everything.
Bev has played better when he doesn't really have to guard a scoring PG. As many of you can recall from last season, he used to get into PG's heads all the time. After he got back from the knee injury, he just doesn't seem like the same guy. Maybe he has peaked but either way we need an upgrade. Hats off to the guy though. I do like Bev.
Per the statistics posted above this post, Beverley has almost identical stats. The problem people have with him is that he started the season looking incredible with his defense looking as tenacious as ever and hitting an unbelievably high percentage of 3s. Now lately he has had multiple bad games and he isn't meeting people expectations anymore and he becomes "the worst starting PG in the league". Look at the GARM comments sometimes. Beverley could hit back to back 3s and then miss a lay up and the next page and a half is "OMG BEV", "BEV IS GARBAGE", "WHY IS HE PLAYING" Beverley is that energy guy, he still can hit the 3, and he is still a pest defensively. He does what the Rockets need from him. I will admit that he was playing poorly before that Cavs game. It evens out the averages from his phenomenal start. Quit dogging the guy when he is the same guy we saw last year
I think the problem is ppl expect a allstar at every position. If Bev has a bad stretch then he's the "worst pg ever". Ppl don't factor in the intangibles like offensive rebounds, steals, defensive pressure. His defense against Lowry & D.Williams was fantastic but nobody mentioned it because he didn't have a good offensive game. I'm always team Bev because he plays with the same effort every nite, fearless. Sometimes stats don't tell the whole story
Exactly. Hating on our own players is pathetic. We are fighting for it all, let's get behind the entire team, especially the guys who are getting the most minutes in the rotation. Bev was a warrior against the Cavs. Remember, Lebron is actually considered a friend & Bev still didn't take any garbage from him. We need that kind of intensity, as long as it is controlled and inspiring the team instead of hurting it. Agree with the other poster who compared Bev with Mad Max, both have the ability to buoy or sink the team with their play/attitude.
This is from ESPN's ranking for NBA Real Plus-Minus 2014-2015. What's interesting is that Beverley is supposed to be the defensive stopper, but his DRPM is lower than Lin's. Also, this must be pretty hard to do when your on the team (Rockets) that is generally outscoring their opponents by a pretty large margin and the Lakers are generally being outscored by their opponents. RK NAME TEAM GP MPG ORPM DRPM RPM WAR 30 Jeremy Lin LAL 57 25.7 0.33 -0.28 0.05 2.08 49 Patrick Beverley HOU 45 30.9 -1.08 -0.47 -1.55 0.66
Where were you the last three months after your assertions got exposed? Sit down please. 2 games are not more of a sample size than his poor performances for 90% of the season. I am glad he's playing well and hope he keeps it up though.
You take the good and the bad with Bev. The only time I'm genuinely frustrated with him is when he tries to do far more than his skills allow. If he plays within himself, though, he can be very effective.
