I think he looks and plays a lot like Rodrigue Beaubois. Shorter version. That's who he remind me of the most.

I don't really expect to see him in rotation, but he will be a nice add-on on the particle room, considering that we have no defensive PG ATM. This also make Douglas more expendable.

Disagree, unless you think Beverley is good enough to handle the full time backup PG duties.

I think Morey just wanted to fill every spot on the roster with a potential rotation player who could be called upon if needed.

I think a second unit of Douglas and Beverley in the backcourt could be productive and give the Rockets a bit more insurance.

Not similar. Beverley is a pure hustle and energy guy. He's a defensive specialist, and a good rebounder for a guard.

He's a defensive player purely almost. He's all about defense basically. Beaubois is a pure offensive player, and is all about scoring.

It's like polar 180 degree opposite styles of player. Beverley is basically an athletic guy that hustles, plays D, rebounds.

On offense, other than ball handling and dunking in the open court off a steal, he does not do much of anything. He's not a good scorer, not good at running pick and roll, not a good shooter, etc.

Beverley is an athletic defensive specialist at the one position. When he played at Euroleague level, he was a third string point guard that was used for defensive purposes, when needed, for about 10 minutes a game, in certain match ups.

So I would expect him to be used by the Rockets as a situational and match up specialist, that is primarily used for defensive reasons.

So he would see the floor when someone like Tony Parker is simply killing us. Is that how you see it? Have you watched Beverly in action in Europe?

Yes. He is a defensive specialist. That's basically the reason why a team would want him. Very athletic, good defender, good rebounder for a guard.

He definitely is not someone that you would be getting for scoring or shooting, which is why he's nothing like Beaubois.

He could play well in a fast team, as a defensive specialist at the one. However, he is really small and would not do good on defense against bigger guards in the post.

Morey is starting to build up our depth with young guys with potential. Rockets' analytics and scouting are great at finding those undervalued but skilled players.

Beverley is a scorer (more of a penetrating attacking style) who can also defend. He has been a baller all his life (watch "Hoops Reality" on youtube). Hopefully he can take care of pesky guards like Parker and Paul. Anderson can defend the SGs.

Might be some time before they get into the rotation but at least even in practice, we have quality guys down to the 3rd unit

Machado is probably most likely to get cut. Coach seem to like using Aldrich at times and front office has been pretty clear they wont cut White.

    http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterocke...-prove-if-rockets-are-a-playoff-caliber-team/

"Rockets update: The Rockets begin a two-game road trip to Milwaukee and Cleveland at 12-2 against Western Conference teams. … They are 5-8 on the road this season. … Second in scoring, the Rockets are ninth in point differential. … The Rockets have won 10 of their past 13 meetings with the Bucks. … James Harden has scored at least 25 points in 10 consecutive games. … The Rockets on Thursday signed point guard Patrick Beverley to a three-year contract, with the second and third seasons on team options, though the contract will not officially begin until he receives FIBA clearance for his move from the Russian League. Because he is not technically on the team, the Rockets did not yet have to clear a roster spot. Rookie Scott Machado, who is with the team in Milwaukee, has a non-guaranteed contract."

Looks like it's pretty much done. Machado is very likely gone.

Spartak St. Petersburg is about to sign Jaka Lakovic or Donald Sloan (released by the Cavs) to replace him at point guard.

    http://www.eurohoops.net/2013/01/dribbling/16451

Thursday was a busy day in Istanbul. The representatives of Jaka Lakovic were in town in order to arrange his release from Galatasaray. The deal between the player and the Turkish team seems to be done and the Slovenian guard is expected continue his career in Spartak St. Petersburg as it was the wish of the Russian club’s coach Jure Zdovc. However there is also the option of Donald Sloan if something goes wrong.

So that should confirm it then, since his old team is already signing a new point guard.

Interesting. Clearly the Rockets think highly of Beverley.

$550k is the most the Rockets could pay without having it impact their cap space.

With the way Machado has looked in the D-League and Uglas in the NBA, the Rockets wouldn't need to think that highly of Beverley to pay that...

    On your computer,

    1. Click on "Expand", a timestamp should appear immediately below it.
    2. Click on "Details" to the right of the time stamp, this should put the tweet in a new tab/window.
    3. Click on "Embed this Tweet" to the right of the time stamp.
    4. Copy the HTML and put it here.

Steps are a little different on the phone and depend on the Twitter app you use.

If he was really making that much in Russia, and salaries in Russian League are always listed in net terms (after taxes, agent fees, etc.) then Spartak was really overpaying him. He's not worth anything close to that in the European market.

Between getting out of that long term deal, and getting that buyout, that club must be absolutely exstatic right now. I am sure they will hope to deal with Morey again.

Maybe we can stash Royce White there.

Non-Euro players rarely get guaranteed long term multi-yr contracts. Even then some times they don't paid the money they are owed.

$1 million is about right for the imports with his resume/of his calibre. Even project imports get paid that much.

Douglas was off to a rough start, but even ignoring the Bucks game, he's been quite good for us lately. Paying the buyout of a guy that likely will start out as a non-rotation player and barring a trade is unlikely to see any rotation minutes is fairly uncommon, so I do think it very much indicates that the Rockets think a lot of Beverley.

    Welcome back OHMSS.

I wasn't totally sure at first, but reading some of your other posts, there's little doubt in my mind that it's you. :)
