One of the reasons why he hasn't been signed yet simply could be FIBA paperwork. FIBA paperwork not coming through in time prevented the Rockets from signing Dionte Christmas at the end of last season after agreeing to a deal with him shortly before the end of the regular season.
Lin not expected to be traded - there is a lot of uncertainly, but most believe Machado will be waived. contract, probably only one year guaranteed. noone knows for sure.
Watched his little documentary. Looks like the type of character guy to fit in with this team. Down to earth, coachable and admits mistakes.
Here is a 2009 ESPN story about PB when he was drafted by LA Lakers and traded to Heat. He played in summer league for Heat in 2010, was signed by the them later that summer, but waived at the end of training camp. (Does anyone know why?) He sounds like a kid who will be easy to root for. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/columns/story?columnist=jackson_scoop&id=4300069
Yeah, Lin is just too popular to just trade away. (He doesn't fill the Toyota Center but fills other arenas. Oh well.) And he's usually played well lately.
So... Where is the kid now? We could use some help in these upcoming back-to-back games. Is he travelling with the team? Didn't he fly into Chicago? Not even a photo of him with the team?
The fact that Patrick Beverly has yet to be formally signed by Houston is, to me, a very clear indication that Daryl Morey has reason to believe that he (Morey) is on the verge of executing some sort of trade that creates a roster spot for Beverly. Again, this could be a 2-for-1 or 3-for-2 deal, or it could be a simple player-for-draft pick deal. It's difficult to imagine Scott Machado getting traded for a pick, even a second round pick. I can see either Daequan Cook, Toney Douglas, or Patrick Patterson getting traded for a second round pick here. Marcus Morris is obviously a better fit as the team's starting PF, and Patterson is obviously not viewed as a guy with much upside by the organization, nor should he be. My guess is that Morey's preference would be to move Patterson for a draft pick, so as to create additional cap space next summer. Patterson is on the books for 2013-14, unlike Cook and Douglas. It's hard to imagine that Terrence Jones isn't able to immediately provide adequate production as the team's backup PF, if Kevin McHale opts to expand the rotation from eight players to nine, that is. I also anticipate a trade wherein Richard Hamilton gets traded to Houston, along with a lottery-protected first round pick, for Machado at some point in the near future, although Chicago is presumably attempting to make some other trade where they can dump Hamilton onto a team with cap space (there aren't many!) and NOT have to include that first round pick. Fat chance of that happening.
More likely, the undrafted rookie who plays the same position and has performed poorly in the NBDL (and in his brief NBA minutes) will be cut. Not everything has to be complicated.
