I was responding to the poster who said Fertitta "let Morey go because he wanted to save money," which wasn't the case. But I agree that there's definitely no love lost between Morey and Fertitta. Morey's leaving probably had a lot to do with how Fertitta was handling things. He saw greener pastures in Philly, and he had no financial reason to stay, so he bolted.
I hope someone who's serious about basketball will buy the team from Tilman and his family. Houston needs a culture change.
I really would rather talk about that than to whine about something that's done. Silas is not getting fired. The team is not changing course on tanking with 30ish games to play. Let's talk about what kind of vets we can acquire and how we can do it without jeopardizing our cap space. Let's talk about whether it's possible to share the ball and play better defense the rest of the season. There's so much to look forward to, and if there was damage done it's already been done and can be undone. I hope we get a top 2 pick and sign 2 low cost vets then try to get the team to .500 before seriously attempting to acquire a top tier player. On coaching I think Silas has been promised a shot at competing for the playoffs, but if it's possible to fire him I would move on to promoting Lucas to lead for a couple of years before we find a title-quality coach. I don't believe in loud defensive minded coaches in the long term, but for a young team and a short period of time it can definitely bring value. If we could get Mark Jackson to develop this team for 2-3 years that would be a good temporary option too before finding an elite coach.
This is about two different owners and two different styles. ALEXANDER vs TILMAN Alexander wouldn't let Morey tank, thus by making screwed trades and drafting the Rockets were able to stay competitive, keep fan interest and turn the franchise into a contender. Tilman on the other hand, signed off on the CP3 trade, fired MDA, ran off Morey, traded Harden and has taken one of basketball's best franchises and ran it straight into the ground! In hindsight everyone can say, those were ALL bad decisions. So when he say "PRAY FOR WEMBY", which only gives us a 14% chance of winning the lottery, my question is what is Plan B? At this stage, I really dont trust his judgment based upon his previous decisions and even if he does get Wemby, you still have to make other decisions to win a Championship.
There wont be another prospect like Wemby for years. It makes sense that multiple teams are throwing this season away at the slim odds of landing him. He can single handedly change the outlook for any franchise in the NBA and would fit seamlessly into the freedom of movement era. Nothing pathetic about it. Pray! Maybe a little witchcraft! Some magic! Whatever it takes to get this guy.
I think people are more upset about the culture he's setting than anything else and if anybody over there knows anything about winning the lottery, which it seems as though they don't, but the team with the WORST RECORD rarely ever does win.
Vets set a culture - who did that for us Eric Gordon? This team is trying to amass as much young talent as possible in order to be active on different fronts. It should be somewhat comforting that they wont drop out of the top 5 at the very least so they can find another young guy to help this team even if it isnt Wemby. Its a matter of perspective - for me it isnt all doom and gloom.
I can live with the losing if I can TRUST the decsion makers. That's my only issue. What if we don't get Wemby? Do you trust Stone or Tillman to pick the right player in the draft? Or to build a roster with the right FAs this summer?
What is the alternative? A random CFans poster making those decisions? How do you know what can happen in FA if these decision makers have yet to be active within it due to the constraints that they had prior? You need cap space to make splashes in free agency you know - FINALLY they have that chance this off season - it is TBD and although I can admit that this free agent class is rather unremarkable, Stone is putting together "names" that other fanbases can feel comfortable with in trade - how many times do guys get the benefit of the doubt because they were the "#2 or #3 pick in the draft" ?? Hell we had guys think that Hasheem Thabeet could be resurrected here! Its just a matter of perspective if you can stay realistic with what has happened up to this point and what is yet to occur.
