could you imagine the uproar in here if JVG did this last year after all that has happened. You may say Riley is the better, more proven coach, but its move like these that make me happier we have a solid guy like JVG

I am personally am still irritated we didn't tank in 05 to draw Seattle instead of the Mavs and last year that we won a couple down the stretch.

I don't believe in winning if the system doesn't reward it. If you are out of the playoffs you should lose for lottery positions. If resting your starters and losing gets you an easier playoff opponent (though I think the NBA has finally fixed it) than you do it.

IMO you are either building towards a championship or not. Once you are out of the equation for a championship, there is no more reason to win.

Well, there's no time table for his return, probably it's going to be related to the Heat record. If the Heat has a 10 game winning streak, which is not likely to happen, look for the news that Riley is returning to the bench.

2007 might be the first year ever where the reigning champions of the previous seasons in all 4 major sports (Basketball, Football, Baseball, and Hockey) don't even make the playoffs the following season.

Pittsburgh Steelers (NFL) - already taken care of.

Miami Heat (NBA) - currently 9th in the East with a 13-18 record.

Carolina Hurricane (NHL) - currently 7th in the East with a 46 points through 43 games. A number of teams are within striking distance.

St. Louis Cardinals (MLB) - the Astros could steal their spot to the postseason.

I just feel bad for Wade...he's the only guy that has tried to soldier through and play his arse off every night, while his teammates are slacking and/or just don't care anymore.

It will take nothing less than Shaq coming back and restoring order. The likes of Payton/Walker/Posey won't care much unless Shaq insists on it.

Ummm...hasn't Wade missed the last three games.

I'm not saying he's not doing his best...I'm just saying that he's not out there every night.

Nah. He has to rehab and get over the knee surgery before having the hip done. I'd expect a month before the hip surgery, and then it'll be a good 2-3 months before he could coach again. It's no trivial matter. Just to get to the joint, you've got to cut through an awful lot of muscle.

    He's done for the season.

Heat started the season horrible. Riley used the time off so he could comeback and tell his guys they get to start with a clean slate after the all-star break when Shaq returned.

It was a brilliant ploy to get his stubborn veteran team to refocus and forget about the peculiar start to the season. Genius. Instead... Wade goes down. All seems lost.

But once again Riley has his team competing as best it can right in the middle of the East. Wade is slated to return... Walker and Posey are in better shape.

So next time yall bash Riley and accuse him of giving up... Remember who has the rings. Learn to show some damn respect.

Hell JVG most impressive feat is being tutored under the guy.

I forgot to add he was criticized last year for making trades. Trading away Jones. Bringing in Walker. He must be crazy to want to coach the team he built. He must be crazy to trade for all those players when they were in the conference finals the year before. He must be stupid and crazy...

    Err....

    CHAMPIONSHIP

you mean like that time he quit when he realized the team wouldn't be very good, and then after svg guided them to an unexpectedly good year and then got to the conference finals game 7 with a hobbled wade the next year, he took the team back over, we shouldn't say he quit?

Really? I thought it was beating him multiple times in the playoffs despite having less talent.

I vividly remember the #8 Knicks upsetting his #1 Heat in the first round of the playoffs that lockout-shortened season.

Or may be my memory is failing me...

Your memory's failing you only slightly, as you forgot about JVG's Knicks beating Riley's Heat in '98 and 2000 as well. The Heat did beat New York in '97, but only because most of the Knicks best players were suspended following their brawl (New York had been leading the series 3-1).
