Where did this kid come from? Does he have a legit chance at an invite to training camp? I have never heard of this kid before but he is really shinning at the LVSL. Marquis Daniels was an undrafted player that turned out to be pretty decent for Dallas, could Carroll turn out to be the same for Houston? He's got good size for a two guard and from everything that I have been able to find on the guy he has decent athleticism and a good basketball head on his shoulders. When I first saw his name on the summer league roster I thought it was Pete Carroll but then I noticed it was Pat and he was from St.Joseph's. He looks to have always been a good shooter so it makes since that the Rockets would want to take a look at him since our biggest need is of course shooting. I guess my biggest question is, could he become a Jon Berry type of player? I have never seen him play in person. How is he recieving the ball in the break? Does he know how to move the ball down the court like Berry did? What kind of motor does he have? Reading the reviews from the summer league games it sounds like Lukas, Novak, Hayes and Carroll really get after it on both ends of the floor. I know undrafted Rookies are always a long shot to make the team but Carroll certainly fills a need and appears to have some very good skills (shooting, passing and I.Q.) that the Rockets really missed from the 2 spot last year. BTW, you had to know it was only a matter of time before someone started a Pat Carroll thread with the way he is playing!
Could be camp invitee but don't see him making the roster. CD said Rockets main need in the off-season is shooting so he could have a chance. He is a good shooter and left-handed. His brother is on the Bobcats. I saw Pat a lot two years ago when St.Joe's was good with Nelson and West. If he makes the team, that means the Rockets didn't do a good job acquiring players in the off-season.
Just a couple of other notables: I know its early and only 2 games into the LVSL but Carroll is 3rd in Scoring behind John Lucas and Randy Foye. Carroll is also 5th in assists behind Kevin Pinkney, John Lucas, Brandon Roy, and Andre Barrett. As far as I can tell everyone else among the leaders is either a highly drafted Rookie....Brandon Roy and Randy Foye or someone with NBA experience.
Like rikesh said I think he will be ivited to play in pre-season but doubt he actually makes the tam. Is he the brother of Matt Carroll?
Hey, Daniels made the Dallas roster and started their play-off games as a rookie as an undrafted player the same year Josh Howard was drafted. That Dallas team was very deep. Now teams have more roster spots than they did a couple of years ago so it is possible that we could add a couple of players via free agency and still have a spot for him on the roster. I know it is a long shot for him but I am eager to see him play. I hope he continues his good play through out the summer leagues.
Yea is brother is Matt Carroll of Notre Dame and now with the Bobcats. He had a nice year last year. If he is like his brother, he will make the Rockets but I heard his brother is much better.
Teams don't have more roster spots than did in 2002. You can't expect every undrafted free agent to be the next Daniels.
AS for as I can see nowhere. He was drafted by the Albany Patroons of the CBA but it doesn't look like he played for them. I am thinking he played alot of pickup games while he worked on his outside shot and bulked up. When he first came out of college he was called a skinnier version of his brother but that doesn't seem to be the case now. Even Givony of Draft Express (great track record for evaluatng talent) said Pat Carroll showed more athleticism in this summer league that he had ever known the kid possesed. He also said, "Pat could find his Niche in this league as a 3-pt specialist who will never hurt you''. Sounds like someone we could use and is at least worth a pre-season invite.
I haven't pointed to every undrafted player to be the next Daniels. I have not said that I expect Carroll to be the next Jordan. I simply said that if the kid can keeps playing like he is then he could get an invite to camp and have a longshot at making the team. My hope for Carroll is that he could come in and be a Jon Berry type of player. I except that it is still a longshot for him but his perticular skill set is one that the Rockets could desperately use. If he can learn to play team defense the way JVG wants and still manage to shoot a high percentage from outside I think he might actually have a decent chance.
I'd rather have a Pat Carroll than a Ryan Bowen on the team. Seems like Pat can shoot, and maybe give us a few minutes off the bench in spot duty. With Shane and Novak on the team, Flyin' Ryan is expendable.
Through 3 games now Carroll is averaging 20 pts 3.3 assists 2.3 rebs 83% free throw 40% 3point 53.2% field goal Carroll has not had a bad game yet.

Technically, they have more roster spots now from 12 to 15. However, teams like the Rockets would have a 12 man roster with 3 players on the "injured list". The Injury List compromised mainly of players with phony injuries. The NBA recognized what the teams were doing, and they finally changed the rule. FYI for the Rookies.
