If he truly is a pastor and a man of God, to wish death upon someone trying to bring forth positive change to this country, would pretty much conclude that the guy should not be a pastor for much longer.
Y'know, pastors/preachers/priests are answerable to the church to which they belong. And I don't mean their congregation: I mean the Lutheran/Baptist/Catholic etc. church as a whole. They are usually appointed (and can be removed) by the national or worldwide church. For me, the real question here is: why hasn't the Baptist Church addressed this issue and/or taken action? To have one of YOUR appointed representatives calling for the death of the President and not say anything seems to offer silent consent to his opinion.
baptist churches are independent and congregationally controlled. they choose their own pastors....they're not chosen for them. the southern baptist convention is a loose federation of churches sharing some beliefs...but the churches themselves make the decisions you're talking about. this guy wasn't appointed by some national group.
The guy's website says: [rquoter] Don't expect anything contemporary or liberal. We are an old-fashioned, independent, fundamental, King James Bible only, separated Baptist church and not ashamed to say so. [/rquoter] So I'm guessing they are about as "Baptist" as Westboro Baptist Church - they aren't associated with even the loose body that is the SBC, or any of the other 3 or 4 lesser associations.
In fairness, this kook isn't exactly operating out of stadiums like the former Summit. From the TPM article, "Secret Service 'Aware Of' Gun-Toter And Pastor's Prayers For Obama To Die," it appears that the main way he recruits followers is to lure in people who mistake his church for a 7-11, wandering in for cheap coffee: Though, all it takes is one acolyte with a gun to possibly irrevocably rewrite history:
I could also see the IRS revoking his church's tax-exempt status. You seem to imply it is somehow less baptist because it isn't associated with other churches. Baptist churches in the States have always been independent. The SBC and other organizations are a more recent invention. I don't think baptists feel it necessary to get the blessing of a larger organization to consider themselves baptist.
These so-called men of God, it's enough to make you want to puke. Is it bad enough that so many Christians pay no attention to the fact that they're supposed to be following the words and ideals of Jesus Christ? Forgive me if I'm wrong, but Jesus didn't seem like much of a "let's kill that f****r" kind of guy to me.
There is when you start to advocate the death of the President of the United States as a religious tenet. When you start to become the person who believes that people who don't agree with you should die, then you cross the line from religion into dangerous cult. At that point, you're no better than the Manson family.
I wonder when real Christians will speak up against their unreal brethren. It doesn't have to be politicized or anything. Just the occasional sanity check.
I agree - anyone else who could even mistakenly be associated with this guy should speak out and distance themselves from him. This guy is just as bad as self-proclaimed Islamic fundamentalist hate preachers, no difference in my book. The only religion they follow is that of hate, and the pretense of acting in the name of whatever God is interchangeable.
Yep. Pat Robertson, your thoughts? <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ig82KrUsKbA&hl=en&fs=1&start=25"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ig82KrUsKbA&hl=en&fs=1&start=25" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Then again, mysterious ways and all that -- AP: "Pat Robertson, 79, on mend after heart surgery."
That has nothing to do with being an independent Baptist Church, that has to do with being run by crazy people.
True, but when someone goes by your name and starts making veiled death threats, then it's largely up to you to do something about it. Baptist churches across the country should be speaking out against this moran advocating killing the president in the name of the Baptist church. Where is their outrage?
