I'm sorry but both Tayshaun and Rashard do quality as hip hop culture type players. They were both urban youths who was influenced by hip hop and I'm sure they wouldn't deny this fact. The Rockets couldn't have thought that they could win right now by taking Turkcan over Rashard because the prevailing scouting report was that it takes a foreign player just as long to develope to the NBA style of play as it would a high school player. The jury verdict is in on Nachbar for in two seasons he has yet to show that he was worth the 15 pick of the 2002 draft. The Rockets proved again my point in this year draft (2004) and the view that Larry Bird espoused. The Rockets traded Luis Flores another urban hip hop type player for Vassilis Spanoulis, a foreign player whom their season ticketholders could relate to more. The Mavericks do a better job of scouting foreign players than do the Rockets. The Rockets are just hoping that they strike gold with at least one of the many foreign players they have drafted. Bird is right, NBA season ticketholders would like to see more players that look like them and there is no city that this hold more true to than Houston.
So what you really mean is they're black? Then just say it. But you want to know who else fits the description of being urban youths influenced by hip hop culture? Just about every other kid in the united states who lives in a city. (the country kids would qualify if the word urban wasn't used). Hip Hop is an all encompassing culture these days. In fact, many of your european players listen to hip hop. And the fact is, almost all people up to age 30-35 aren't bothered by it because they grew up with hip hop too. I think this is kind of ridiculous. It's not entirely unfounded because my father is a season ticket holder and a VP of a company and I've heard him voice his frustration with the whole corn rows and tattoos look of today, but you know what those season holders ultimately want to see? An exciting team that wins. Don't tell me the predominantly christian crowd at the summit related to Hakeem. We loved him anyway.
Exactly, if most NBA ticketholders were 35 and under you wouldn't have this problem. The problem you have is that most NBA ticketholders are 36 or older and therefore, they are turn off by the recent trend of urban hip hop type players. You used the term black, I didn't want to sound harsh but you know very well that you are more supportive of those that are more similiar and share closer culture value as yourself. This is called been a respecter of a person. The NBA attendances has gone down a little, because african american dominate the game and only cities that have winners or that are more tolerant are getting full backing from their fans. I don't think this is racist but that the NBA would have better support if a few more European players are able to flurish. This is point that Larry Bird made. This explain the reason that the NBA is making an assertive effort to bring in foreign players to take away much of its urban hip hop look that turn off so many of its primary ticketholders. You even admitted that your dad is frustrated with the whole corn rows and tattoos look. I wouldn't dare say that your dad is a racist, but it becomes a problem when we are not tolerant and become critical of other cultures or way of life different from our own. I'm not aware if the predominate crowd at the summit that went to see Akeem is Christian, because I know to be Christian is in one conduct and not title, of which a primary conduct of a Christian is to " love thy neighbor as thyself".
are you trying to imply you would rather have Tayshaun Prince than Yao Ming or Bostjan Nachbar ? I still am yet to see Nachbar's game to really judge. I have seen only brief playing time for Nachbar. And I sure as hech would take Yao over Prince any day of the week.
I would rather have Tayshaun Prince than Bostjan Nachbar. The Rocket blew the 15 pick of the 2002 draft. Prince showed that many NBA scouts do not know how to evaluate talent. I wanted the Rockets to draft Prince with the 15 pick of the 2002 NBA draft, but the Rockets blew it on Nachbar, an unproven Euro player. I blame it on the Rockets willingness to add a foreign Euro player rather than draft for the best talent to improve the team. I also wanted the Rocket to draft Marquis Daniel. If I was the Rockets General Manager we would have Daniel, Prince and Rashard Lewis. The Rockets could pay me 1/3 of what they pay Carrol Dawson for a job that he has yet to prove that he is good at.
and you thought the Rockets drafted poorly..... Fans and a new coach aren't the only things missing in Atlanta. The Hawks' drought in search of a future All-Star in the draft has reached a league-high 20 years, since the selection of Kevin Willis at No. 11 in 1984. And Isiah Thomas has some depressing history to overcome in New York. Only four of the 17 players drafted by the Knicks since 1995 have appeared in a game for them: John Wallace, Walter McCarty, Lavor Postell and Mike Sweetney. Those four players have combined to make seven starts, six by Wallace and one for Sweetney. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=stein_marc&id=1830919
Look my bro, you are rushing too quickly to judgement. Wait for another one or two seasons so that you don't sound stupid and dumb later okay........ Oh btw, I am black too but I wanted Boki more than Tayshaun in the draft. I am a die hard Kentucky men's basketball fan and tayshaun was my least favorite player during his days at UK. I never really liked his game (until) lately. I thought he was too slow and predictable. So for this reason I was will to go with Boki. Tayshaun may have suffered the same fate that befell Boki here in Houston if roles where changed - we may never know. But now he is shining because of the support and surrounding he finds himself. What I refuse to subject myself to is the hindsight bias (which you lilrooster is suffereing from). Let Boki get a full and steady chance to prove himself before you premature snatch the rulling away. PS. I find the whole hip hop culture thing repulsive and regressive.
Great post... Bad veteran contracts are why the Knicks will suck for the rest of time..... I've been disappointed with the past few Rox draft. Boki is a huge bust who I think will never contribute anything of value to the franchise. A shooter who can't shoot. Great.....
hahah.. and detroit is still sticking to their guns saying that they are really happy they picked Darko over Carmelo. Even IF they wanted Prince to be their SF of the future.. it would have been smart to draft him, play him for a few months, and then trade him. He would be excellent trade bate to get rid of any large contracts they may have. Instead, they have Mr. Darko, the man who gets his chance to shine in the last few minutes of the Finals and hits the side of the backboard. To me, his game is absolute trash. I hope he proves me wrong, but he sucks!!!!
You don't impress me by stating you're black, so what are u trying to say, that u too had a low SAT score so this qualify u as the average black person. You showed that u lack the ability to scout basketball talent. Unless u are a professional scout, how could u have made a sound determination on who the Rockets should have drafted if u have seen many of Tayshaun's game (with Kentucky) and few if any of Nachbar's game in the European league. My hindsight was this, the Rockets, in need of a small forward, should have drafted Tayshaun, who could have contributed right away in stead of Nachbar, a project at best. My hindsight, that u called a bias, was proven correct by the performance that Tayshaun gave in the NBA final while assigned the task of containing Kobe. He showed his worth thoughtout the playoff, which his block on Reggie Miller was a highlight. You just continue to wait for me to look dumb and stupid. Tayshaun Prince is a ballplayer in only his second year and for right now you the one that look dumb and stupid, until your boy Nachbar prove otherwise. PS. I find your statement repulsive and regressive.
Yes indeed, Detroit blew it on that selection, however, they had talent to cover it up for now. Darko looked terrible in the last two minutes of the final game of the NBA finals. He couldn't make the best of gabage minutes, when the game was already won.
