Ok, I have a stupid question. I catch Austin City Limits on PBS whenever there is a band on I like. Are those shows recorded during the festival each year? Is that the actual stage they play on for a festival? It always looked to me like they were playing a small auditorium.
no, the festival is a seperate entity from the tv show. the show is actually broadcast out of the u.t. communications building on dean keaton and guadalupe. and its free, which the festival is not.
Man, I sure would like to see me some Explosions in the Sky, seeing as that's all I've been listening to for the last month.
Word. I saw them at Antone's a couple year's ago right before Chutes Too Narrow came out. I think it was actually the ACL weekend, but they were playing an extra show at Antone's. Very good live show.
The list is ok, but not as good as years past IMO. R.E.M. 3 years ago was an amazing experience. Ben Harper and G. Love are ACL fest whores - they've played every freaking year. I love Ben, but G. Love is a freaking dork. Tickets are $140 for a 3 day pass Id love to see Tom Petty and Van.
If you guys want to see a good music festival, check out summerfest in Milwaukee. Also, the new Lollapallooza (3 day festival only in Chicago) also has an outstanding lineup: Kanye West, Wilco, Death Cab For Cutie, The Shins, Common, Matisyahu, Blues Traveler, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Subways, The Raconteurs, The Flaming Lips, Ween, Queens of the Stone Age. neither of these places involves 100 degree heat or dust bowls
Was so there. Oh, and Explosions were also amazing, but were overshadowed when I saw them by the local band The Octopus Project. If you like Explosions check out Sigur Ros and Mogwai. I saw Mogwai at La Zona Rosa a couple weeks back and it was hands-down the most amazing, intense concert I've ever been to.
Actually, G-Love and Ben Harper both finally took a year off from ACL last year. While I liked them both, it's getting a little tired. There were others I would have rather seen. I was hoping Yonder Mountain String Band would be back. It's going to be another great year. If it wasn't for Black Crowes and Mofro last year, it would have been a total disappointment to me. 2004 was the best one in my opinion.
apparently we have similar tastes in music.... nice. was upset that i missed mofro last year, but the crowes, allman brothers, drive by truckers, panic, gov't mule (etc., etc....) made up for it. last year was like an ultimate lineup for me - southern rock/jamband/bluesy types, but would definitely have loved to see yonder there..... hell, i literally just finished burning a yonder show definitely looking forward to catching some different acts this year though.... petty, van, string cheese, raconteurs, lips, matisyahu, kings of leon, thievery corporation, galactic, buckwheat zydeco are all on the top of my list. you gonna attend the any crowes this summer?
Yo Frodo! Me likey: Tom Petty Jose Gonzalez John Mayer Matisyahu Iron and Wine Damian Marley Ted Leo Gnarls Barkley I like that reggae theme they got going this year. Now if they just add Voxtrot, I will reach enlightenment a little bit faster.
G-Love needs to take a break this year as well -- i'm way over that act. Hopefully he'll stop being a tool and play more of his old stuff this year.
This will be Van Morrison's first Texas concert in something like three decades. I might have to go this year....especially since Bob Schneider is not in the lineup!
I've been to that a couple times. Always a good time. This year, Tom Petty and Pearl Jam are co-headlining a show.
Yeah, I've heard some Mogwai stuff and I really liked it, but...I still like Explosions better. It's all about the highs and lows. Or maybe it's just because they're from Texas and get the home court advantage. I'll have to check out Sigur Ros. Do they have a singer?
The buzz last year was that Arcade Fire stole the show...... Even Coldplay was pimping them left and right. I wish I would have gone last year..... Outside of Tom and Van, just seems like a weaker lineup than years past.
Coldplay was praising them because every music magazine in the world was praising them the previous year. The sound during the Arcade Fire set was really bad, I seem to recall. The Decemberists had the best set I saw.
