SECOND TEAM - Chandler Parsons, Houston (33); Isaiah Thomas, Sacramento (27); MarShon Brooks, New Jersey (18); Derrick Williams, Minnesota (16); Tristan Thompson, Cleveland (16).
I don't really have any problems with most of the selections, either based on rookie season production or reasonably expected talent ceilings, but it just bugs me like hell that Iman Shumpert gets more ROY votes and All-Rookie Team votes than guys like Chandler Parsons and Isaiah Thomas. None of those three players are viewed as eventual NBA stars; and Parsons and Thomas CLEARLY had better rookie seasons than Shumpert. Damn New York media!
Asssssetssssss! watching him play on LP you can see he's got amazing potential. He is a dead eye shooter.
HS scouting report: http://rivals.yahoo.com/basketballrecruiting/basketball/recruiting/player-Chandler-Parsons-46675 I don't remember ever hearing, or reading, he was a sharpshooter in high school...is this incorrect/lazy scouting?
That's what I was talking about. No question that Thompson can shoot the lights out. That there are a number of 2-way players who received fewer votes than he was what raised my eyebrow. Unless, as you say, the teams are based on potential.
Yeah, the only thing which really bothers me here is Shumpert being on the first team. He's a borderline second team talent in this rookie class. Good defender, doesn't do anything else well. At all.
But even high school has their Steve Novaks.....probably had a good shooting game the day he was scouted.
Derrick Williams is trash. Isaiah Thomas should be on first team, Shumpert and Knight should be on second team, and Williams and Thompson should be on no team. It’s crazy how NBA coaches can put so much stock into draft status/hype vs. actual production. They do the same thing with some of those crazy All-Defensive team selections too.
To be fair, Williams and Tristan Thompson wouldn't have made the rookie team if there hadn't been a three-way tie.
Not a bad rookie class at all, Irving, Rubio, Chandler, Kawhi, Thomas, and Marshon all studs with potential
When he got a bunch of playing time the last 2 months of the season, he was arguably the 2nd best rookie of the year. Yes, a bad team, and true, he is mostly a shooter for now, but consider: March stats: 16.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.7 apg, 0.3 bpg, 0.8 spg in 30 mpg, shooting 42% overall and 42% from three April stats: 18.6 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.8 apg, 0.4 bpg, 1.2 spg in 34 mpg, shooting 46% overall and 38% from three
