I didn't read through this whole thread and I don't agree with parents not allowing their kids to watch him, but it is their choice. If they don't agree with a single thing he stands for, then why should their kids be forced to watch it. What is the difference in that and the kids who have to leave the classroom when you have a Christmas party, or those that don't say the pledge because god is mentioned? In the end parents should still have some rights with their children and their belief system. It is exercised in all other grey areas, why not this one? It doesn't make them ignorant, it just makes them less open to others beliefs. I have been reading this board for years and many in this thread fall into that category. If you don't agree with something, it is not an absolute certain the other person is ignorant. It just means the two of you think different. In politics, nobody is ever 100% right or wrong, but all believe they are and are quick to insult others. I find it funny that we can go round and round about Bush or Clinton or Bush jr. and they are all best friends. Clinton's own words say that Bush is like a father and Bush jr. is like a brother yet we fight about them, and what they stand for. They stand for money and power, not a thing more. They say what they need to say at the time to get elected and we all follow and fight for the guy we like. We are all the ignorant ones.
Of course we agree that everyone should be entitled to their own opinion! However the problem here seems more to be involved with a lack of respect for the POTA. Not celebrating Christmas or not reciting the pledge are/can be religious issues. The most this speech has to do with politics is the fact that a Democratic president will be giving it. With that being said, I do somewhat agree with your point about a good deal of the people on this board being less open to other people's beliefs; whether they realize it or not.
Like I said, all it teaches kids is not to listen to people in leadership positions if they don't want to. It teaches them if you have a difference of opinion, you can dismiss EVERYTHING that person has to say.
To anyone that wants to think for themselves, here are the contents of the indoctrination...er...Menu of Classroom Activities http://www.ed.gov/teachers/how/lessons/prek-6.pdf
The sad thing is that now I feel almost obligated to call and email my oldest's school (started Kindergarden this year) to tell them to let him watch it. Fracking radical "conservatives."
You have it backwards. The slippery slope goes the other way. What's next, holocaust-denier parents can pull their kids out of school the day history class discusses the holocaust? Can racist parents act to ensure their kids don't read about the civil rights movement? I understand what you're saying, but a lifetime of watching imbeciles raise future imbeciles has made me more open to some parental requirements. I'm wholly onboard with population control.
Agreed. Was about to post the same thing, but saw his post. And, sorry, BJ, but a lot of times I'm not willing to read through 15 pages before I comment.
why in the world does obama continue to cowtow to these ****ing r****ds? hey, dumbass, you're not getting it. they're going to oppose you no matter what you do or say, SO QUIT ****ING TRYING TO APPEASE THEM.
They can and some do. A parent can take their kid out of school for a variety of reasons and even altogether to home school them.
I don't believe that if a public school is presenting material that follows the legal curriculum and meets the standards parents are allowed to take their children from class. The cases where parents can do this is if the class is watching a PG or higher movie. Then a permission slip would be required. The same is true with field trips. But to take a kid out on a day that general or mandated curriculum is being taught, it would be an unexcused absence. At least in CA that's the way it is.
Agreed. I disagreed with most of what he did as well and not only would I let my kids watch him on TV, in person or whatever during school hours the thought to do otherwise would NEVER even cross my mind. These wingnuts can pretend that people on the left did the same to Bush but this is a whole new level of personal hatred for the President.
These 2 posts pretty much sum up how I feel about this. No matter what you think of his politics, you respect the office. These talk-radio nuts are making us all look bad. The President actually wants to give a speech to school children. STAY AWAY FROM OUR CHILDREN, YOU SOCIALIST!!!
What all of you are missing is that working hard, setting educational goals and responsibility are all Socialist and by emphasizing those values our children are bound to become Mao spouting Commies! I mean look at how happy those commies are to be working hard and doing well in school! BE AFRAID! BE VERY AFRAID!!!
