    knew

Is not wanting to be dehumanized and dominated by an institution not of your choosing for two years enough justification? Was for me.

[War College]Pardoning War Criminals Is Not 'Sticking Up For Our Armed Forces'

The guest is 'Stockdale Chair In Professional Military Ethics' at the US Naval War College. It is more comprehensive and exhaustive than mindblowing, but they rundown all the ways that this decision by Trump is extremely problematic for the US Military and how they view themselves. Lots of little angles that I hadn't thought about, for instance the two SEALs who turned Galagher in despite his personal threats to murder them if they "ratted him out" - do you think they're glad they stuck their necks out? Next time SEALs are in the same situation do you think they think again?

The good news is it sounds like the vast majority of the special forces community is kind of pissed about this, so maybe it won't erode their professionalism too much.

Luckily, there’re many in the military that aren’t like Gallagher and actually do follow through with honor and integrity. Unfortunately, there are the few bad apples that stand out, which usually leads to the military cracking down on those sections and forcing a lot of remedial training to get it fixed.

Trump is wrong for doing this, but I don’t think it will create a new surge of bad actors. In fact, I think it will go the opposite way and things will get cleaned up.

Trump can have his thug...but, he’ll never have the military respect beyond the position he holds.

Interesting detailed article from Navy Times published back in April on the Gallagher case.
    _______

What motivated fellow SEALs to dime out Eddie Gallagher?

On May 28, Special Warfare Operator Chief Edward “Eddie” Gallagher will be guided into a courtroom inside Naval Base San Diego, where he will face a panel of his peers sifting evidence in a war crimes case.

It will mark a sea change in the sea service’s clandestine and close-knit cadre of SEALs, a secretive and elite military force that rarely testifies against each other, especially in war crimes probes attracting an international audience.

But Gallagher faces a long line of SEALs prepared to provide damning testimony under oath against him.

I had peers lose rank for being UA(unauthorized absence) for 48 hours.

This guy creates a international public relations nightmare for the Navy and Trump panders his red meat to his jingoist base that losing rank is too harsh of a punishment?

**** him. He couldn't give two ***** about servicemembers. This is nothing more than pandering red meat to a jingoist base that believes that we need to remove our boxing gloves to handle them "sand niggers" as they so eloquently put it and he's doing it at the expense of jeopardizing our military's trust amongst the world that we will properly handle our unethical military personnel.

guessing most here are unaware Gallagher wasn't prosecuted for killing anyone, merely for posing in a photo (along with a bunch of other military people in the same photo, none of whom were prosecuted)

from the way the left and media smear him, you would think he's a serial killer

Regardless of the legalities. Trump can always cleanup his messes with pardons (or not).

Note to all: We all knew the Criminal in Chief does crimes all of the time, when we elected him. So get over it!

"the left and media smear..." The "left" being the very SEALs that served with Gallagher?

    https://www.sandiegouniontribune.co...alleged-gallagher-war-crimes-to-investigators

Or the "left" being military leadership that opposed his pardon?

This is not true. He was, in fact, prosecuted for murder. During the trial a witness for the prosecution, a medic who had previously told prosecutors repeatedly that Gallagher murdered the boy and had been granted immunity to testify changed his testimony and claimed that he, not Gallagher, had murdered the boy, so Gallagher was acquitted. The immunity meant that he didn't have to then accept the consequences of his new testimony. He later said he changed his testimony because he didn't want Gallagher to serve life in prison.

Maybe you should be the one who looks a little bit closer. He was acquitted because the medic generated reasonable doubt, but there were 6 other witnesses who testified under oath that they witnessed Gallagher murdered the boy in the murder trial where Gallagher was, in fact being prosecuted.

Yes, he is the commander in chief.

    I would go farther.

His directives on punishing innocents and families members are clear. I’m his mind, this is how you win the war against the enemy.

Anyone under his chain of command that does not support his view on so called war crimes established over the last century by the US military and the elites should be fired.

so the half-dozen or so fellow seals who say that he repeatedly murdered non-combatants (women and children) are all liars?

why do you want politicians getting involved in military matters?

i find it disturbing and unamerican that there are so many of you out there who think like this.

stuff like this is why trumps popularity with the military is as low as it is. its pretty shocking that a republican president is polling so low.

    https://www.militarytimes.com/news/...ppy-with-trump-new-military-times-poll-shows/

i have a couple high-ranking active duty military folks in my close circle who absolutely loved george w bush and identify as republican. they HATE trump. the two words that come up most with him are "narcissist" and "a**hole". officers have to constantly tell their troops to NOT listen to the president. its not official policy until they hear it from their superiors. think how abnormal that is. officers telling troops to ignore the commander-in-chief...but its happening. trump is causing all kinds of confusion in the military community with his impulsiveness, his tweets, his constantly undermining leadership, his attacks on beloved military men, POWs and gold star mothers.

i also find it a constant source of bewilderment that the party that claims they support the troops would be so up trumps ass. it should have been the end of his candidacy when he attacked a gold star mother and said POWs are not heroic b/c they were captured...but for some bizarre reason his supporters loved him for it.

we all know damn well that if obama had said what trump did that yall would have never given him a pass for it. but again, when trump says it yall LOVE it.
