Haven't seen a ghost, but regularly made contact with 'spirits' through a Ouija board about 20 years ago. The biggest regret of my life.

One night, we asked the spirit to make a dog bark at us. Out of nowhere, a dog runs up to the fence and begins to bark at us. Then, we asked it to tell us the next song that would get played on the radio. At the time, we were listening to 101 FM - KLOL. It spelled out "Running with the Devil". Sure enough, that was the next song played.

My father works for Sheriff's Department in Harris County..

Yeaaaaars ago before I was born, he slept with a gun under his pillow (we lived SE htx in hidden valley)...

Well one night, he recalled being startled awake by a beam of light flashing on his face, but he kept his eyes shut pretending to remain asleep incase the intruder had a weapon. You know how light bleeds through your eye lids, right? Well he said it was just like someone with a flash light moving it around the room. He could see/feel the light just scanning over him and through the room.

Well he slowly got in position to grab the pistol and did a quick roll off of the bed, swinging his gun in the direction the light was coming from and no one was there. Just him in his room alone with the lights out.

    And you know what???
Now that I read a couple of the new posts, my dad's brother has seen shadow people!!!

And he saw it sometime in his 30's. Him and the Auntie slept with their bedroom door open which peers out into the kitchen from where they lied in the bed. There'd be several times where he'd somehow be awake late a night and see this shadowy figures going about the kitchen. Said he saw them on two occasions and didn't do anything because he figured his mind was playing tricks on him and the 3rd time he was seeing these figures in the kitchen, his wife (who he thought was asleep) nudged him, freaking out about seeing a dark figure in the kitchen.

That was how I justified ghosts and myself being sane during my spirits stint - my friends experienced some scary stuff with me first hand. Now I don't know about shadow people - but if it's something that is supposedly your mind playing tricks on you, how *****ing creepy is it once someone else confirms what you're actually seeing??

Understandable, however it's just as easy to say that it does exist (especially if I'm not the only one who claims to have seen it/them) but that most people are not going to experience them because they are able to defy the law of physics by disappearing from what I can consciously see.

I've never seen a ghost but it doesn't mean I dismiss the possibility if others claim they have. I just take it as a grain of salt and move on.

Just because all people don't have the same experiences and aren't able to concretely prove something doesn't mean it didn't happen, especially if lots of people unconnected to each other make a claim. Like I said in the last paragraph, you take it as a grain of salt and move on, not just go "yeah, right" and move on because you have your mind made up on what is possible and what isn't.

I **** you not... As I'm reading the comments here, thinking to myself these stories are nonsense. My front door handle turns and the front door comes open...fast. No wind, no nothing, not even a peep outside.

Needless to say, I'm ****ting my pants right about now.

never seen 'em, don't believe in 'em. my wife, an otherwise rational level headed woman, claims to see them.

she asked me after decades of marriage if i believed her. and yes, i do believe she's honest about what she thinks she sees. still doesn't make me a believer.

We bought our house almost three years ago. Our (small) back yard backs up to an old Catholic cemetery. I'm not religious, and don't really believe in ghosts, but we've had some weird things happen. Not too many, and not too crazy, just puzzling. The weird thing is that for about the past year, we've moved our bed, and had nothing happen. For the first two years, our bed faced the cemetery. I don't believe in the superstition crap though.

Shortly after we bought the house, I had gotten home from work at about midnight. I went to watch Boardwalk Empire on DVR, alone, downstairs. So, I'm sitting there watching for about five minutes, with the remote about three feet away from me, when my DVR'd show shuts off, and the tv start going back and forth from the two previous channels over and over and over. This happened for about two minutes. I sat and watched thinking about how crazy it was. So, I grab the remote turn the show back on. Show's on for a minute and the remote is laying about a foot away from me when all of a sudden, my dish menus come up. It starts flipping through the menus, selects one, and then flips down a few more, and stops at one. I turn the show back on, set the remote down beside me and start watching. Shows on for about another two minutes, when all of a sudden, both the TV and the satellite shut off completely, at the same time. I was irritated, so I said, "STOP!" out loud. It didn't happen again.

A few days later, we go up for bed. My wife's in the bathroom, getting ready, and I walk into the bedroom. I walk past our alarm clock/radio (everything is displayed digitally on it), and it's cycling through radio stations super fast (the radio was off though). As I sat there and stared at it, it slows down more and more, and then comes to a stop at the station that it was on.

A few months later, my wife and I are sitting in the living room watching TV, when there's a huge noise in the kitchen. The cabinets were all closed as I walked out to see what had happened. There's a glass bowl, sitting upright in the middle of the kitchen floor. It had crashed down hard, but somehow didn't break. I still wonder how it fell so far across the kitchen, how it didn't break, and how the eff the cabinet closed after the bowl fell out.

A few months later, we are going up for bed after just coming home (we had left the house for about an hour and a half), and I walk past the attic door, which is right outside our bedroom. Our attic door, is not a pull down. You have to push the door (which is basically a piece of wood) up about a good six inches, and then slide it into the attic wherever you want to move it out of the way. So, anyways, as I walk past the attic door, it's pushed up and about a three inch area is open to the attic. WTF? How does this happen?! This kind of freaked me out. I asked my wife (who is 5'2" and too short to access the attic without a ladder) if she had done it, which of course was a no. I could technically have barely reached to do this without a ladder (and I'm 6'3").

Also, my dog sometimes randomly stiffens up and stares into corners for about 5 minutes at a time.

True story. Back in the day my Grandmother died. She, along with my Dad, raised me since my mother bounced out when I was younger, so I was very close to her. Anyway, she spent some months in a hospital before passing away, and I would frequently visit her while she was being taken care of, and occasionally assist her going from floor to floor to have various tests and treatments and whatnot performed.. Sure enough, she passed. I was tore up about it for a while.

A few months later, my Dad, who was a police officer, was shot on duty. I went to visit him in the hospital, his injury was not life threatening though so after a bit I left. As I got on the elevator to head back down to the ground floor at about 2am, the elevator stopped on the 3rd floor, the floor my Grandma was treated on. I **** you not, the doors opened, and there she was, in a wheel chair waiting to get on. I could see her mouth moving but she wasn't saying anything. I was shocked at first, stunned, frozen. Once I realized what I was looking at, I freaked out. The doors closed on the elevator and down I went.

Craziest thing ive ever seen, and ive seen quite a few crazy things in my life.

Theres a new world across the Atlantic you say?? You must be hallucinating, or super high, or you are simply lying for attention.

Man has the ability to fly you say?? You must be hallucinating, or super high, or you are simply lying for attention.

Theres life on another planet you say?? You must be hallucinating, or super high, or you are simply lying for attention.

Any of those three statements are all as unbelievable as the one before it. Who would have thought 300 years after discovering a 'New World' man would be landing on the moon? No telling what the next 100 years may bring.

    Whatever you say.

Gotta love the so-called experts of modern society who know exactly what's possible in the world.

I've had stuff happen to me similar to what has been descibed in this thread, but I've never actually thought it was a ghost or spirit or whatever.

I've had electronics start bugging out; I've had items fall from cabinets; I have seen figures out of the corner or my eye before; I've been with a friend when he started screaming his head off, swearing that a large figure was standing over him; I've heard noises I can't explain; I've had furniture move in ways I can't explain; I've known people who have suffered through sleep paralysis.

But when this stuff happens, the whole "It must be supernatural!" line of thought never crosses my mind. Ever. It is always reasonable to think about these in terms of the natural. And if some of these supposed supernatural occurences have happened to multiple people, that means nothing to me. People, in mass, are so often deluded that it is not even worth commenting on anymore. See: American democracy.

LOL,the irony in this post, especially the last couple lines, is incredible. I was just about to say I thought your post was reasonable since this stuff isn't necessarily supernatural. But people are deluded in many ways now days, including in thinking they have everything all figured out.

The typical atheist cracks me up in that regard. It's one thing to have that belief and not believe in what can't be naturally observed but the arrogance some have that it can't be possible is what really cracks me up. And no I'm not a Christian or really religious I might add.

In the post you quoted, I was just saying that I perceived these things differently than some others in this thread. That's all. And that essay of David Hume's that I linked to explained why this was the case. My train of thought is similar to his in that essay. Nowhere in that post you quoted did I say or imply that I have everything figured out.

I can only assume that your horrible misinterpretation of what I said came as a result of the part about truth not being determined by popular vote. But to turn that into "This guy thinks he knows everything!" is quite a stretch.

Just take a deep breath and read slower next time.

I have not seen a ghost, but everyone I play ball against is a ghost of their former selves after I take them to school.

im ghost-agnostic, but i love hearing ghost stories.

there is a park by my house in south austin called garrison park where i used to walk my dog everyday. its a pretty decent sized park and heavily wooded - not many people go there and it can sometimes be pretty spooky, especially in the evening. it was a ranch dating back to the 1860's and the family eventually donated the land to the city...there are a few tombstones there - one of them is abraham lincolns cousin, who was married to the owner. there is a marker there.

one evening i was walking through a wooded area and i came upon a picnic table w/ this guy just sitting there motionless, staring off into the woods. hispanic guy dressed in jeans, t-shirt and a ball cap. i walked to the side and then behind him so i never saw his face, but he never moved or acknowledged me. i immediately got a weird feeling about the guy - something just didnt seem right...my dog, who usually walked right next to me made a wide circle around him...would not go w/in 20 feet of the table, even though it was right next to the trail.

so i was on the other side of the park walking through the woods behind crockett high school. there is a chain link fence w/ a gate to get back into the park. i was walking towards it and when i was about 100 feet from the gate i turned my head and when i looked back at the gate the guy was there fiddling w/ the fence gate. his head was down and he was wearing a ball cap so again, i didnt see his face. he definitely was not there before i turned my head - again, i got this really weird feeling and kind of creeped out. as i was walking towards him he turns around and walks back to the woods. i actually followed the dude, but could not find him.

another thing that happened to me there is kind of freaky - i was walking down a trail one night and there must have been at least a dozen birds directly over me making all kinds of noise - it was very song-like and melodic. really pretty sounding. i was going to this park everyday for a few years and i never heard these kinds of birds before. and it sounded like they were maybe 10' over my head and as i was walking down the trail they stayed directly over me. again, something just didnt seem right about it, but i shrugged it off. so the very next day the exact same thing happened again in the exact same area - that time i was kind of freaked out, but i also laughed about it. those are the only two times i heard those kind of birds.

the last incident there was the scariest one...i was walking through the woods with my dog and it was already night time. there was nobody else at the park. i was going through the wooded area and walked by the same picnic table where i saw the guy in the first story. there was a dark figure sitting at the table. since it was dark and i thought i was the only person there i kind of walked around him and headed back towards the main trail. i looked back and the figure stood up and turned towards me. all i could see was a black shadow, but this thing must have been at least 7' tall and very hulking. i could see it start walking towards me and i turned and ran towards the main trail and did not look back. i was legitimately freaked out at that one.

so a few months after that i saw a website about haunted locations in texas...it might have been something someone posted on here...and garrison park is listed!
