I wasn't scared during the first one, but it does make you wonder what goes on when your sleeping so that has a creep factor. The thing about this movie as many have said, it just doesn't have the same appeal cause you know it's fake. They have to try and mess someones brain and usually the second ones is always a flop. I agree if the first one ended with more of a psychological mess with your brain ending it would have been better.
People actually pay to watch this is theaters? If you want to be scare, rent it and watch it with the light down alone at home. THis is the kind of movie that does not work in big theaters. Blair Witch was one of the stupidest experience at the cinema I've ever experience. THe only thing that did scare me was right near the end when the camera dropped or something like that.
Yup that is the only time i actually jumped. The rest of the movie I almost fell asleep. (Blair Witch that is)
I actually did gall asleep about halfway through. Only reason I woke up was because my leg got all tingly.
Of course somebody was flipping a switch. And the blue people in Avatar were done using motion capture, the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park were CGI, the X-Wing and Tie Fighters in Star Wars were models....none of it is real. But that's not the point. Movies are about escaping reality. In reality, crew member was flipping the switch. But in the context of the movie we are led to believe the demon was controlling those lights. A lot of people are afraid, in some small measure, of those things that cannot be seen nor explained. And this movie did a good job of preying on those fears, and I think captured the atmosphere of those types of situations perfectly. Certainly it's not without fault...the boyfriend action's, every single one of them, was pretty damn stupid. But that didn't really ruin the film for me. The atmosphere was there. And I love that a low budget movie succeeded against the big budget studios. Night on Elm remake, Jennifer's Body, Hills Have Eyes, My Bloody Valentine...you could do a lot worse...a lot worse...than Paranormal Activity. -- And BW 2 bombed, I suspect, because it was a very straightforward, Hollywood horror. It ditched all the elements that made the first successful. Paranormal Activity doesn't seem to do that...it's again using the handheld cams to film, docu-style a house at night. If anything, it'll just be more of the same. But considering the plethora of ghost hunting shows on tv these days, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
i dont know why .. i laughed out loud through that crap movie. So loud that someone asked me to leave
I saw this first film by someone forcing me to. No way in hell I would see the 2nd one. I don't understand how people find this crap scary. Everything is to predictable, there is never suspense if you are continually knowing what is going to happen. Reminds me of the Blair Witch, everyone declared that movie so scary yet it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Its truly depressing that movies such as this get so much hoopla when smaller independent films get hardly any notoriety and are vastly superior.
Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity, are very solid movies. To say that they are the worst you have ever seen makes me think that you watched them in the wrong frame of mind, and did not give them the chance that they deserved. I'm not saying they are classic films, but they are far from the worst...
I tend to agree, these type of movies aren't for everyone obviously but people saying they are the worse ever is just silly. People's taste vary, like with everthing.
I think people who hate on movies like paranormal activity and Blair Witch Project just pretend to hate everything that is popular. You just make yourself feel cool by thinking you're better than everyone just because you do everything opposite of mainstream.
That blows my mind. My gf at the time didn't know it was fake either, and when I found out I couldn't help but laugh. The naivety of some people just astonishes me.
Does anyone else think that people use laughing as a defense mechanism in the movie theater because they don't want to be scared? I watched it yesterday and it was really good, loved the way it connected to the first one so well but part of watching a scary movie in a theater is the pricks who always make dumb ass comments during the movie and start laughing at parts which really aren't funny and I've noticed that this is mainly during horror films. Not as many people behave like this during an action movie or a drama. I think it would have had a better effect if I rented it and watched it at home for sure but overall it was a good movie.
