Its because he want to buy liquor or drugs. He gets free food anytime he wants from any number of sources, but needs cash for the next hit or bottle. I've seen people in downtown buy or try to give food to the homeless guys. They'll often throw it back at them and cuss them out. The trick is to leave it on the edge of the trash cans and if they are truly hungry they'll come grab it. If you buy them a meal, they'd rather have the cash. Every once and awhile I'll give them cash, but I KNOW its going to the dealer or liquor store. I usually don't care as it makes their crappy lives better for a little while. It is OK if you know you are buying them drugs.
They are banking on your kind heart and laziness or fast life (too busy to really help). If you need money for food, I will get you food. If you need money for gas, I will fill up your tank. If you need money for a ride, I'll get you an uber (or even give you ride myself). It takes more effort but if you were a person really in need, would you not want the need met instead of partial money that still leaves you in need? I've had way more people fesses up to a hoax, driven off before I could help (said I'd be back and I came back within a couple of minutes), people that have thrown the food I just bought down on the ground and cuss me out...more of those people than people that just said thank you. One thing I never do - give cash money to someone - not one cent.
reminds me of this guy. That i always see where I work. I see him in nearby gas stations asking for money or with a homeless sign at the light on Fry and I10 asking for money. I work next to a UPS store. And when I am getting off work late I see him come up in his car like a 2010 Beattle go check his private mail box lmao
Dude it's a job just like any other. Call it performance art where you get to pay money to feel better about yourself. The new one for me was a kid asking for money to wipe your windshield at the gas station, using the gas stations squeegee. I mean I guess it's better than stealing them and waiting at an intersection. Plus it's shaded and no bucket needed for dirty water.
I had a dude walk up my driveway and ask for gas money and he said he was broke down around the corner. I was like "dude you are in luck I have a full gas can right here hop in my truck and we will go has you up" and he just said "never mind" and mumbled a few obscenities and rolled out. So full of ****
