MManal, i think the clippers would be looking more for quality rather then quantity. williams, thomas and drew are 3 below average role players. to get the 3rd pick i think we have 3 options:

    trade:
    1.)cato, drew, and #9
    2.)anderson, drew, and #9
    or
3.)mobley(sign and trade), drew, and #9

if i had to choose, i'd trade mobley, drew and #9. we don't need that good of a back up shooting guard when we're so in need of help at other positions.

And why again are we trading a proven 16 ppg scorer, a solid PG and the #9 pick for an unproven HS player? #9 and Mobley should be able to land #1.

and dice-Clippers DO want quantity. You claim them to be roleplayers, but let's look at the Clippers situation, they'll have Nesby, Odom, Kandi, #3......and that's about it. The rest are complete scrubs. Drew would start for them. So would KT.

Mobley would have to want to go to LAC.....for some reason, I doubt that. We also can not trade things along with Mobley in a sign and trade, can't happen. Add in the fact that if the Clippers could convince Mobley to go there, they wouldn't even have to sign and trade, as they're well over 15 million under the cap. So why would they throw away #3?

We're talking about trading for a guy who doesn't have a jumpshot, and isn't 7'2'' 330 lb. Miles will struggle his first few years, he'll be good, but not worth all that.

I personally would not let Cato, Mobley, Anderson, or Francis go in an effort to get Miles, and of that group, I'd only consider letting Mobley or Cato go to help get Swift/Martin.

If we're in need of other positions, it's a bad idea to trade away depth and a top 10 pick, for a guy who won't start for 2 years. The only position we're in desperate need of IMO, is PF (Swift/Martin). I'd like to get Miles or Dermarr, but I'd be a lot less likely to give up extra to get them.

dice, if it is going to take something like Cato/Drew/9th or Anderson/Drew/9th, then I say pass on it and lets pick what there is at 9.

Also, dealing Mobley will be extremely difficult. You cannot just trade him straight since he is a FA to be. Mobley would have to agree in advance to a sign and trade. Imagine trying to approach Mobley with this, "Well you know we would have liked to keep you, but we think we can do better, would you accept a sign and trade to the Clippers?" Guess what kind of response you will get.

i don't think mobley would have any problem at all going to the clippers, he and odom would be the main stars and cuttino would get all the playing time he wants and get to shoot as much as he wants.

    -why trade cuttino for miles?
lets face it cuttino will never be anything more then a role player. we have a very good role player at the shooting guard spot with anderson. i'd like to see anderson be the primary shooting guard and have him being the guy to play the majority of the minutes expecially during the crunch time of a close ball game (having a 6'4 shooting guard is a defensive liability) therefore cuttino is expendable.

we would be trading 2 good players(mobley and #9) for one potentially great player (i have all the confidence in the world that rudy will make sure miles reaches his full potential). last year we did the exact same thing trading dickerson and othella for francis and i think most of us agree that was a good decision.

we MUST give up good players to get good players. we can't just stand still and rely on role players to win us championships.

Mobley will be a lot more than a role player. I've said this too many times, so I dont feel like saying it again, but I'll sum it up. Mobley has the all the tools needed, ESPECIALLY THE WORK ETHIC, to become a very good player in this league if not an all star. Work ethic is what counts... all the great players improve a lot every year.

And also, there is no way we can trade Shandon Anderson, and as people already stated, there is almost no way we trade Mobley. Francis and Mobley combo is gonna be a really good backcourt, especially if you add Mooch and Shandon to the equation. Rudy does not wanna mess up chemistry, therefore I think he will not try to trade Mobley. Even if Mobley would agree to that trade, Rudy prolly wants to keep Francis + Mobley together... gotta keep Francis happy u know.

LoL. Mobley wants to go to the Clippers. Never mind the fact the Clippers are highly unlikely to even offer to pay for him.

Mobley wants to win. There is a winning team in LA, and it's not the Clippers.

So now it's time to go to the numbers crunch, the big number: Minutes Per Game

    Mobley-30.8
    Anderson-32.9

So Shandon already is getting more MPG. This team needs a bench.

Correction: Having a 6'4'' shooting guard starting is a defensive liability. Bring a 6'4'' shooting guard who can score off the bench is not. He can come in against matchups.
Is being a SF who can't shoot outside 8 feet not a liability?

IMO, Dermarr is only 1 step below Darius in terms of potential. Both are skinny 6'9'' guys. About equal in athleticism. Darius is a better defender, Dermarr is a better shooter. Dermarr has the tools to be better defensively, and is not a slouch in the ball handling department, but is not quite Miles (it's almost a wash).

Dermarr has the experience of playing second fiddle (to KMart), which should come in handy on this team with Francis, and hopefully a big man. SF is not my position of concern. Getting a big man who can be our #1, or #2 threat is a huge concern.

well, all i know is rudy wants miles bad and it sounds like he has something up his sleeve to get miles at 3 and i am 99.999999% sure that the clippers will not trade the #3 unless we give them mobley, anderson, or cato.

ok, then the price for the 3rd overall pick is too high imho. I would much rather sit at 9th and pick DerMarr Johnson than sell the farm for Miles. If the Rockets deal Cato and 9th for Miles, I just have two words to describe where they are headed "Phoenix Suns".

That's a pretty good analysis Nike. Both Miles and Dermarr are pretty similar in terms of potential, so why trade everyone when we can just get Dermarr by staying at #9.

It'll take a few years to develop a consistent outside shot anyway. Everyone says Miles will develop and get a lot better... and so will Dermarr.

don't get me wrong i like dermarr, i just don't think he has the superstar quality that miles has. i'm sure dermarr will be a good player but i don't see him being anymore then a good player. i'm almost positive miles is going to be a special player in the nba.

NIKEstrad made an excellent point that pretty much shoots down any Mobley to LAC possibilities:

Mobley is a FA and he'd have to agree to go to the Clips. If Mobley did want to go to the Clips, then why wouldn't he just sign with them outright (since they have the cap space)? The Clippers wouldn't want to give up the #3 if they didn't have to and Mobley would want the Clippers to keep the pick in order to strengthen the team.

Any discussion about moving Mobley to LAC is an absolute waste of time. In another thread, someone posted how CD said that Steve, Cat, and Shandon are playing together this summer. Why would they do that if CD was about to exile our boy to Clipperland? And Franchise calls Cat his left hand, and talks about how well they play together. And why give Lamar Odom a reason to enjoy playing for the Clips? The West has too many good teams as it is.
If we can nab Courtney Alexander with the #9 and move him with some combination of Walt, Drew, KT, whatever, that would be good enough for the Clips' #3 pick. Better than picking Fizer and watching him walk after 3 or 4 years.

Right on ROXTXIA. There is no way in hell that CD would trade away Steve, Shandon, or Cuttino. These trade rumors are rediculous. I think they would consider trading Cato because of the disappointing year he had, but why would they trade away an experienced Mobley to basically get a high-schooler who could be a flop. Now if they trade up using Cato or Thomas to get Martin, Swift or Fizer then I would justify that trade alot more. I believe Martin is the safest pick of this draft with Fizer being the second safest. Swift in my opinion is still a little bit of a raw talent but could end up being the best out of this draft. If I were the GM then I my wish list would look like this.
    1.Martin
    2.Fizer
    3.Swift
    4.Miles
    5.Miller
    6.Johnson
    7.Mihm
    8.Moiso
    9.Iakowhatever
    10.Oyedeji
11.Alexander(I would pick him and trade him)

So my trade would still be #9, Cato, and Thomas to NJ for #1(Martin) or the same package to LAC for #3(Fizer) or #9, #38, Cato, Drew to Chicago for #4(Miles) and #32.

Hello everyone. I'm a newbie, so please be gentle with me until i learn the ropes here.

I've been reading the posts for a little while & have come up with what i believe to be 3 pretty good trade proposals that i would like your feed back on.Will they work, how can they be improved, & if they won't work, then why not.

1)Could we trade Bryce Drew & one of the #1's that are owed to us for the Clippers #1 next year in what should be a deep draft? They get a proven starting P/G this year that fits their style of offense & the owed #1. We get a possible lottery pick to go after a stud center or trade it for multiple picks.

2)Could we do a sign & trade with Cuttino & Croshere straight up or would it cost us more? That would give the Pacers a great young PG/SG to replace Mark Jackson & us what i believe to be the perfect PF for our type of offense.

3)Could we trade Walt + #9 + the other #1 owed to us + our #1 next year for the #3 this year? That way we could draft one of the big three without giving up Cato or KT. The Clippers would end up with Drew,Walt, & #9 + 3 #1 picks. Is that too much to give up? It would only work if we could pull off the first proposal.

As we all know the Rockets are in a rebuilding mode & are probably a couple of years away from being serious contenders. We know that there will be a lot of young players that won't get drafted & could be invited to camp. With Rudy's & CD's eye for talent, i wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a rabbit out of the hat.

I'm sure i fouled these proposals up somehow, so let me know if they would even work or what would.

ROX-That is an interesting thought, I haven't thought of it that way.

Courtney Alexander, Kenny Thomas, and Bryce Drew would give LAC 3 starter ready players, and complete their lineup. AND if we do it straight up (for just #3) we'd get 2 million in trade exceptions, available NEXT year (when we should chase Webber). I'd think about doing that for Miles, if we had some sort of way of knowing we could pick up a PF (Croshere/Fortson) via free agency, or perhaps even just use the pick on Fizer.

i took a visit to monter's website and asked him if he would make the deal mobley/#9 for #3 if he were the rockets and he told me he absolutly would. i don't think you guys understand that giving up 2 role players is a small price to pay when your getting a talent like miles.

    Hottoddie,

To make any of the above trades realistic, the numbers have to work with the salary cap. Draft picks have no monetary value against the cap, so you need to come up with players on the other team whose salary matches.

Also the trade has to enticing for the other club. Why would the Clippers give up next year's #1 pick? They know that will loose significant talent through FA and next year will yet again suck. The only player that would entice the Clips out of next year #1 pick is Steve Francis. Do you want to make that deal? I don't think so.

The Rockets are going through 3 stages of denial.

Stage 1. Swiftotitis- The Rockets are totally mezmorized by Swift. They want him bad. Unless some deal can be worked out to move up, they're not going to get Swift.

Stage 2. Milesotitis- The guy who schooled MJ, the next Garnett. Impact player. Rockets want him bad, no way he slips to #9, will be taking few picks before their pick. Heartbreaker, scrambling to move up.

Stage 3. Reality- No way they are going to get Miles/Swift unless some team above is willing to deal. They realize DerMarr, Miller, and Moiso are the more logical selections. They didn't get either of the 2 impact players they wanted, but got the best value out of their pick.

BTW, those 5 deals (I thought there were more, but I guess I heard wrong)...couple are from the SAME team. [IMG]
