Yes. While growing up. As in not an adult and/or making adult decisions. So should you (or anyone else) hold her accountable for decisions NOT made as an adult? Or decisions made FOR HER by other adults because she was NOT an adult? Yes OR No.
that wasn't hard wasn't it Did the thread title mention anything about being and adult or who made the decision? Yes Or No?
The thread title is 100% accurate. We don't know the circumstance that led Palin's parents to take her to Canada for health care. It could have been that Whitehorse had the closest doctor. It could have been that health care was much cheaper in Canada, even for US citizens. However, what we do know is that she has personal experience with a health care system much more centralized and "socialist" than anything the Obama and the Democrats have proposed. She could have used this experience to inform thoughtful commentary in the healthcare debate. Instead she ran around blathering about death panels.
She uttered a throw away line making a connection to Canada to a bunch of Albertan's who were dumb enough to pay $150 each to hear her speak. For all we know, she took a wrong turn at her porch and really went to russia to see the doctor -- if she even left the porch at all. She didn't get 'free health care' or 'socialized health care' in Canada unless she has a Canadian health card. If she did get health care in Canada, either she, or her health insurance, or an arrangement with the Alaskan government, paid.
If Canada's healthcare is decent enough for a sitting governor, why I should bad mouth "sociopath-healthcare"
Nice. You've been railing on points to me about things that weren't mentioned in the title or the article the whole thread. And no, it did not, which is why I found it misleading. I should have expanded on it: Yes, based on the article, it is factually correct that she received health care services in Canada. The problem lies not in that it reads that Palin received health care, but that the decision was made for her as a minor by her parents. That's the difference. To use an analogy: Bush Sr. used his connections to make sure his adult son got out of military service/action/commitments. This is not the case here. Which, along with her being a minor and having the decision made for her by her parents, is my point. And I, therefore, will not get worked up about this, call her a hypocrite, etc. Actually, we don't know that. How old was she? Did she have the mental and emotional maturity to have an accurate understanding of what was going on? I have no idea, so....see my point right above this one.
FWIW, Whitehorse is a 5 1/2 hour, 300 mile drive from the border. It would suck IF Whitehorse did have the closest doctor.
For crying out loud.... I've already said so. Multiple times. I never disputed it nor will I. The issue at hand is holding a minor to adult standards, which changes the context of the scenario entirely. If you can't get that point and insist on holding a child, who has their decisions made for them, to the same standards as an adult, who makes decisions for themselves, I can only conclude that you're trolling the thread and being deliberately argumentative.
you know what the meaning of multiple choice right? "Palin Went to Canada for Healthcare" A. True B. False C. None of the above and I'm an idiot
I know better than to feed the trolls, but: Post #48. Either read the damn thread or chill the hell out.
Lynus made a perfectly reasonable comment. What's the big hairy ****ing deal? He's made it clear he isn't pumping up the empty shell that is Ms. Palin, but rather making a point that a decision by a minor's parents isn't germane to the discussions on-going about Palin. This is rediculous and why we don't see a lot of people posting down here that otherwise might enjoy discussing the issues. Why put up with the grief?
Couple of points: On Palin: 1) LMAO at the OP. It's sad and hysterical in a 300 metric ton fail bomb. So, now she went to "evil socialist health care canada" growing up. So....her parents (it it was that long ago) thought Canada's care better, or americas alternative unaffordable. Or she did. 2) I suppose, as JV mentioned, canada could have been the closest option - but I think this highly unlikely. Even if it was closer, it would imply knowingly avoiding the appropriate system. Other than emergencies, it's a joke argument. 3) Love that the misused word is the pop-culture demolished "ironic". Quite fitting that the pariah of american elitism and a stalwart defender of xenophobic bigotry would be unable to speak her own language. lol. 4) The fact that a good chunk of the american public, much of it reasonably educated, still praises this woman is not funny. It's sad as hell. This is Reagan gone berserk, the final point in transitioning government functionality to "american idol does democracy!". On this thread: 1) For the first time ever, vlaurelio's vaguely socratic "turn statements from the opposition into arduously assembled questions" appears to have worked. Wow. 2) As related to point 4 above, some of ya'll need help. 3) Props to Lynus. I see your point, but I think your stand merely a technicality; a small-scale version of Hayesian dialogue.
It looks like I fell for his....whatever that was. I've never paid much attention to him but I guess that's how some of y'all remember old posters so well. Anyway, thanks for the props....but I hardly think it's a technicality given that Palin was (apparently) not at an age to make these decisions for herself. To get upset about something like this is just silly and detracts from pertinent issues, IMHO.
