Oh. You're a part of *that* culture. Good God, I DO NOT understand how people are supporting this woman for VP. My (immediate) family is absolutely in LOVE with her, any doubts about her experience are dismissed with a "But it's great that she won't bring along her Washington politics." This is driving me nuts. She is completely COMPLETELY incompetent. That is how I would sound if I was being asked those questions. Dumb and befuddled. Just like that conservative columnist, I wanted to like her, I wanted the first woman VP in the White House, and for a short time there I was considering overlooking my disdain for John McCain because of her. But this is crazy!! How is she qualified? She can't even give straight answers to any questions posed to her. And people I know will STILL spin everything in her favor.
That's the brilliance of the pick. No matter how incompetent she comes off, I don't think she can possibly hurt John McCain's campaign, atleast not enough to shift the net result after the voters she brought in. That's why, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter how many gaffes she makes or how stupid she looks during interviews. It's irrelevant. Her supporters will overlook it and make excuses for her while Obama supporters will continue to laugh at her. No net change. I don't think it has enough of an effect to scare off independents. If John McCain loses this election, it will be due to some shortcomings voters perceive in him, not due to anything relating to Sarah Palin. If anything, she is the only reason it is as close as it is at this point. As shocking as that sounds.
Cabbage, but the election turns on the independents, and don't you think they are going to see this and make their choice accordingly? Sure the religious right will vote for her, no matter how bad she looks.....but the independents...what do you think about them? Because to me, that seems like it will kill his campaign. DD
I finally watched a little last night. It was painful. As partisan as I sometimes am, I did not enjoy that at all. There was no glee, no schadenfreude. I actually felt sorry for her and I was overcome with horror that she is on the national ballot for a Constitutional office. Apparently, CBS chose not to run some of the really bad stuff. If this was indeed her best 10 minutes of the interview, I don't know what to say. You Republicans need to honestly confront the idea of Sarah Palin as VP and possibly President. You need to consider what a President Palin would mean for the country and for your party over the long-term.
My first reaction without knowing anything about her, I liked her. Well I have always been a sucker for a pretty girl(DD, she is right there at my age ). I think that it is easy to want someone to lead you that has the same beliefs and you give them more of a chance than you would someone that is differant. I think she is failing right now. I think that it would be a mistake at this time to boot her, you guys are right McCain should have checked her better. I hope that the GOP does not cancel the VP debate, if she fails miserably then they should think about dumping her.
If you dump her after a miserable debate, that's a lot worse than dumping her now before the miserable debate. Now, you could come up with a plausible excuse... not so much after a miserable debate performance.
If you dump her now the campaign is dead because McCain chose a "pretty face", ????If she does good in the debate????? then the campaign can continue.
Even if she fails miserably at the VP debate, McCain cannot dump if her. No way in the world. Personally, I think she will find a way to survive the debate. I'm not saying she won't end up being a drag on the ticket by the time voting starts, but McCain will stick by her. Like you said, if McCain dumps her, his campaign goes completely dead. The Republican party would explode.
Did anyone hear this when Palin was talking? <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lj3iNxZ8Dww&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lj3iNxZ8Dww&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Not if, as DD suggested, she bowed out for "family reasons," saying she didn't realize how much the campaign would disrupt her family life, or something like that. Actually, I wouldn't blame her! Sure, it is just speculation, mostly for the fun of it, but were I John McCain, I would get her the heck off the ticket, pronto, and get someone else. Dealing with the fallout of that is better than watching her continue to look increasingly absurd in the national media and, most importantly, having Palin a 72 year old heartbeat away from being President. Of course, I'm not running his campaign!
The challenge for Bidden will be to not come off as an arrogant, know-it-all a-hole. A real possibility given her weaknesses and his personality. It’s pretty much a given Obama supporters will be shocked, outraged, and fearful for the nation after her performance, and will certainly (now) not vote for McCain. But a condescending, or preachy attack might feed the disconnected elitist branding that’s worked well in the past. Could she win by losing?
With the new format that the McCain campaign demanded that should not be an issue as they will not be directly confronting each other, but rather just respond to questions from the moderator.
I don't think there's any danger in that. Biden will ignore her, answer the questions, and let her sink on her own. And she will sink.
Has anyone pointed out to Gov. Palin that Anchorage is only 300 miles closer to Moscow than NY or DC? And even further to Juneau.
Here's what the fine people of Wasilla think about sexy Sarah... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/l4Uoy5QWXNQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/l4Uoy5QWXNQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
McCain picked the wrong Palin... <object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jf1y9s73Nos&rel=0&border=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jf1y9s73Nos&rel=0&border=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object> http://www.michaelpalinforpresident.com/
Oh, but they will. McCain/Palin requested that they structure the debate with no direct communication between the candidates and they were rejected. Instead, the commission in charge of the debates threw them a bone and said they would shorten the time allotted for direct debate. So we won't get as much as there will be in the presidential debates, but there will be some.
Sadly Palin is woefully ignorant on foreign policy. An honest answer for her would be, that as Governor I concentrated on domestic issues, and I'm enjoying this opportunity to meet with foreign leaders, and broaden my knowledge with some of the best minds available on foreign policy, including my running mate John McCain. Instead she is ignorant trying to act like she's not, and it shows.
