The really sad thing is this is after they kept her from the press to prep her. Speaks volumes to either her intelligence or the McCain team's ability to prepare. Or both.
I think she is intelligent, just ignorant of the issues facing the majority of Americans. And if she is not ready, then why the heck is she running, and why did John McCain pick her when she clearly is not ready. Alaska is an isolated state, with issues that are uniquely Alaskan, I will bet she is a good with Alaskan issues, but with McCain being 72 and prone to cancer, I want to feel somewhat confident if he dies that the person stepping up is ready. Palin, is just not ready for the big stage, she is like a community theater performer trying to work on Broadway, maybe with some seasoning but right now...not even close. And BigDaddy....welcome....and don't worry a bit about spelling errors....anyone that anal is just picking nits... DD
I traveled a huge amount growing up with my parents (my father was a department chair at a Houston university, who spent his summers going overseas on aid projects, and we got to go a couple of times. he also loved to travel, period, so we did when we could afford it), especially as a teenager, but while going to college, I decided I wanted to go to Europe for several months, worked 2 jobs, saved the money, and just did it. Managed 6 months before deciding to come back. Sarah, if you weren't so freakin' incurious about The World, you could have done the same. You just needed to want to.
Absolutely right. This is after weeks of prep by the best McCain could offer her. After all of that time, this is what we get?
Conservative columnist Kathleen Parker, admitting that until recently she was a vocal supporter of Sarah Palin, now says the vice presidential nominee should bow out: Parker says her turnaround came from watching Palin in interview. Like other critics, she wasn't impressed: Read the whole thing.
mc mark, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if McCain kicked Palin off the ticket. He can claim she was "done in by the biased, Democratic media," that it was "an incredibly painful decision, but Sarah thought it for the best," (regardless of what she really thinks), and then pick some big name dude that will, he hopes, jump-start his campaign. I'm sure you could think of several possibilities, as can I. Based on McCain's bizarre behavior of late, it wouldn't surprise me at all. McCain would figure that "the attempt" to get Palin on the ticket would solidify the Christian fundamentalist, far-right base of the current GOP for him, letting the guy pick someone he probably wanted in the first place, like LIEberman or Rudy. Who knows, he might even pick Romney, but I doubt it.
She could pretend she knows what she's talking about. Say things like... FDR was president during 1929 stock market crash and was on TV to rally the people during that time.
I haven't seen anyone else call for her to bow out, but conservative analysts everywhere seem to be coming around to the idea that she's a disaster. That said, there's no way McCain drops her. It would be the end of the race for a VP to bow out - it would show it as a horrible pick, no matter what spin was put on it. He has to hope that she's a quick study - if she seems perfectly competent three weeks from now, all this will be forgotten. As a country, we have a very short-term memory.
What if she backs out though? Say they make up a story that allows her to gracefully bow out? I doubt they would fire her, but they might force her out and then canvas it like it was her decision. It would probably be something personal like with Bristol or Trigg....one of her kids.....no one would question that, even if everyone knew that she was being forced out. Bottom line: if they really want her out, they can make it happen. DD
I think everyone would see through it. There was an internet rumor yesterday with the same about Biden dropping out due to health issues and being replaced by Hillary. I think either one would be way too transparent. If she was competent, it could pass - but an incompetent VP conveniently dropping out would be way too easy to see through. And, worse for McCain, it would bring out questions of why he didn't vet her more to find out if she was really able to handle the changes to her personal situation.
So you think it is just too late? See, I would think if Palin left of her own accord (wink wink) and Lieberman stepped up to help his buddy out, that enough time is left for them to make up the lost ground. DD
I think it would be a trainwreck, but really, we've never seen it, so who knows. I think McCain would lose his base that was really more excited by her than him, and that really doesn't like Lieberman. And Obama seems to be doing a good job locking up his base and getting traction with moderates, so I'm not sure what would happen there. I wouldn't mind him trying it out, though
I don't know anything about Ed Schultz (all his guests seem to be Dem though), but his front page says: http://www.wegoted.com/ Breaking News from Big Eddie: McCain Camp insiders say Palin "clueless" Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people are more than concerned about Palin. The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as "disastrous." One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, "What are we going to do?" The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is "clueless."
don't fall for it, if they can't get the evil dems to attack her, they're going to start attacking and somehow spin it for sympathy
