If you did not read my first response in this thread, please do, it's one page before this one. -- Okay, saw part one... but B-Bob was the fairest I've read on here... Not much else to add. I doubt it's as bad as many of you have said. Her strongest point was about Obama having to stick his finger in the air to see which way the political wind was blowing... I thought that was spot on. She is correct that people are waiting on McCain's reaction... even Obama has been doing that for months. It was awkward in Part 1, I'll admit. Here's part 2, CBS just added: <embed src='http://www.cbs.com/thunder/swf30can10cbsnews/rcpHolderCbs-3-4x3.swf' FlashVars='link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ecbsnews%2Ecom%2Fvideo%2Fwatch%2F%3Fid%3D4476721n&partner=cbssports&vert=News&autoPlayVid=false&releaseURL=http://release.theplatform.com/content.select?pid=u3__TceSBPIxSf1v_AAhLARXyGzH1GYf&name=cbsPlayer&allowScriptAccess=always&wmode=transparent&embedded=y&scale=noscale&rv=n&salign=tl' allowFullScreen='true' width='425' height='324' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer'></embed><br/><a href='http://www.cbs.com'>Watch CBS Videos Online</a>
Thanks, I need someone to correct me, why dont you just follow me around on here and see if you can keep me straight. I like you, I wish we could hang out, I would probably get real smart.
First of all, Katie Couric rubs me the wrong way. I never liked her and in this interview she is especially smug. But having said, that Palin looks a drowning woman surrounded by sharks. She's unprepared and about as ready to assume the role of VP as Admiral Stockdale was in '92. She comes across as the Republican Tipper Gore. Memories of Tipper Gore and the PMRC vs. Frank Zappa made both Clinton and Gore unelectable (at least for me). I can hardly see how I'd give Palin a pass for out-Tippering Tipper with her statist nanny tough middle class PTA-mom-who-thinks-government-is-supposed-to-"protect"-you persona. I wouldn't elect Palin to advise the homeless transvestite in my neighborhood on how to wear pancake. I think Joe Biden is a tool but at least I don't feel embarrassed for him when I hear him speak.
Do you think it is bad to be smart? You keep mocking intelligence. In a global game of Chess, with Vladimir Putin across the table, the last thing I want is a checkers player like Palin asking what the little horsey guy does. DD
exactly, and its the same thing she said in her convention speech, so she's just going to apply it to every situation, why is that not surprising
And considering who her running mate is, it's even more hilarious. He makes John Kerry look like someone who's never changed his mind.
Kudos to IROC it for being consistent and making an appearance in this thread. He and I may be diametrically opposed on all things political. Unlike T.J/basso etc he doesn't just show up to play when he has something good to work with (or that can be spun as something good to work with). He is also capable of conceding a point (which I think I have seen basso do once in 3 years)
Couric seemed frustrated. I thought she was gonna ask her to try and find some common sense and bring them to her.
I can't believe she was asked about a moratorium on foreclosures and her response was actually "decisions that were made poorly should not be rewarded." And when Couric said "by consumers?" she responded "and predatory lenders ..." how the hell does a moratorium on foreclosures help reward the predatory lenders? The brokers already made their cut, and the banks are prevented from salvaging a defaulting loan. My lord. This woman is so freaking clueless, it's unbelievable.
HAHAHA the facepalm image in your post changes every time I refresh this post. I'm going to start using that site.
aside - the real answer to this question is that it's generally believed that the collapse of the financial system and credit markets will hurt consumers FAR FAR worse than any gains that can be fixed by an economic stimulus that katie implies here and that thousands of workers and retirees will see their savings, pensions, retirement funds evaoporate without it Palin's answer? That's utterly incoherent and laughably awful.
Couric asks about why Alaska' proximity to Russia strengthens her foreign policy experience. Palin's answer was "because we share a border with Russia and Canada. They are our neighbors." This is what law professors call a conclusory argument. After having it beaten out me for three straight years by law professors that resemble three year olds (why? why? but why? WHY? WHY?) it is especially irksome. You didn't explain what makes proximity lead to foreign policy experience. You just restated the conclusion.
It's like watching my mom (rest her soul) being interviewed as the VP candidate. This is exactly how I would picture it. You want to root for her, but you also know she should never be VP.
