I did feel there were a lot of things she was missing in terms of an opportunity to ask what a VP candidate stands for, what the values are that are represented in our ticket. Jane six-pack and first dude have over a million dollars in assets, own three different houses and have holdings in very lucrative fishing rights throughout Alaska. Don't want to pop IROC it's bubble, but the Palin's really aren't like one of him.
I tried the commercial shrimping (comparable to commercial fishing) thing for a summer. There's a lot of money to be made, but it's dirty, nasty work, and you have to keep a lot of money reserved for lean seasons. I don't know what IROC It is like, but I have a hard time believing that millionaire commercial fisherman live much different than most middle class people.
Todd Palin is not a commercial fisherman, by the stated post. He has holdings in such ventures. The dudes who reap the profits, and don't go out on the boats, probably don't live like most middle class people.
I understand she has holdings in fishing rights.. not actually doing the commercial fishing.. so she makes money without the hard work..
That was kind of like an interview...except w/ a little less responsibility because that was a rehearsed dog and pony show. If THAT was annoying, does she think it will get any better if she becomes VP or, shudder to think, POTUS?
It is clear that she respects Cheney. She's been anything but transparent and open to the press since becoming a VP nominee. So picture the access he's granted to the press, and decrease that. She's dismissing the entire main-stream media, before even getting close to office!
There was something disjarring during the debate when Biden choked up about losing his wife and kid only to have Palin steamroll the whole thing with her chipper and geewhiz manner. Any Republican who hates Bush but voted for him and loves this woman's personality is a damn fool. A dirty damn fool.
From everything I've read Todd Palin IS a commercial fisherman. He does go on the boat. He also owns those *very lucrative* fishing rights worth an unfathonable $50,000. Also, re mcmarks comments....their three houses include one which he built -- valued at $550K plus two others owned jointly with friends valued at $30K and $50K. (what's your weekend home worth mark ) I read somewhere else they had about $300 - $400K in investments including retirement accounts. So...with the 50 yo plane and other dribs and drabs that comes to the $1m in assets. I'd say...financially...they are pretty much joe and jane sixpack..as advertised. Doing well, but certainly not welcome at the country clubs the McCains, Clintons and Obamas frequent. Of course none of this makes her better prepared for the VPresidency, or excuses her performance at the debate or interviews. But we should keep the standard of discussion a little higher then huffington here. At least pretend to be acurate.
