as much as I'm glad her ineptness on these issues is being exposed, its to the point i'm feeling sorry for her also dan rather's revenge
Perhaps some vindictiveness from the press resulting from their beef with the McCain campaign for being denied access to Palin for so long.
There is a part of me that does feel sorry for her. But c'mon. I bet if you took Weslinder, Rocketjudoko, yourself, and many many others on this board....with the prep you'd receive - each of you would have done better on the interviews discussing policy than Palin. Now, you might come across as far more geeky and less coherent, but substance-wise, a good chunk of any of us would have been able to handle that interviewer. Why isn't it better to spend the $700 Billion on average joes instead of these financial institutions? It's an obvious meatball. You could just say that because the banks are on the verge of collaspse, and if that happens, everyone suffers from the poor to the average joe to those who do have money. It's not an option to let those banks fail. They prop up our economy's infrastructure. You might disagree with that, or it might not even be entirely true - but it's intelligent enough and coherent - and a lot of people would buy that answer. So I don't feel that sorry for her. She accepted this role. And if she didn't think she was prepared for it, than let this be a lesson of humility for her. Let this be a lesson to future candidates not to pick someone just for sizzle and as a trophy candidate, because that's what Palin clearly is. McCain messed up - and I'm fine with the media milking it. They can do whatever they want. For them, it's about ratings. And frankly, the more damage they do, the better. Palin can always quit. I mean, what's more important....Palin's feelings, or the future of 300 million americans and 6 billion people around the globe?
At this point all Palin has to do to exceed expectations in the debate is not to break down and confess that she is unqualified. Don't be surprised if she is able to spit out enough memorized talking points to look ok. At that point she will be declared qualified and the media will start talking about how the race has tightened and will go down to the last possible minute, so stay tuned.
Parody with the exact words?!!! <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zeMypXCUWMw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zeMypXCUWMw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
But the real reason why Palin failed on the Couric interview - TrapDoor Questions!! <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2SVK7eO52Qg&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2SVK7eO52Qg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I don't feel sorry for her one bit given the hubris by which she carries herself (ie: that community organizer/mayor quip). However, I do think dragging the interview out in peices reflects very poorly upon CBS. Doesn't really hold up to the journalistic standards you would expect from a major network. Glynch - I think what will be more interesting to watch is whether Biden sticks to the gameplan on Thursday and lays off her. They will absolutely have her ready with cheapshots aimed at his record and you can bet on her coming out firing from the get-go to "redeem" herself and draw attention away from the inevitable incoherence of her own answers. For the Dems' sake, I hope he doesn't get baited into an actual debate (the horror!) but for my own entertainment's sake, I'm hoping he takes the gloves off.
The way I read the stories is that CBS did a separate piece with her on the trail where they asked her the same questions they asked Biden when following him around. I don't think it is part of the sit down interview, but I could be wrong. At any rate, I think they plan to offer up both the Biden and Palin answers together as a lead-up to the debate.
I agree. But the McCain campaign wanted to shift the attention w/ the Palin pick, and now they are getting exactly what they wished for.
how can bill o'reilly defend palin just now on the couric interview? she looks so incompetent and yet he doesn't acknowledge it? dude is showing his utter republican bias with ease.
Apparently, one of the gaffes is that she was asked about Supreme Court decisions and couldn't name any besides Roe v. Wade: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/29/latest-palin-gaffe-cant-n_n_130395.html Today, the Washington Post's Howard Kurtz reported on potentially embarrassing clips of Sarah Palin being interviewed by Katie Couric that haven't yet been aired. The Politico has more information on one in particular: Of concern to McCain's campaign, however, is a remaining and still-undisclosed clip from Palin's interview with Couric last week that has the political world buzzing. The Palin aide, after first noting how "infuriating" it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe, revealed that it came in response to a question about Supreme Court decisions. After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases. There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence.
She was so bad against Katie they had to call in McCain for Backup. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9RywhPtebuM&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9RywhPtebuM&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Yes this is not a joke - it took the two of them to cry Uncle to Katie Couric about how she's out to get them in order to try to repair the damage from the beatdown. And they recovered, instead of giving a real response, by screaming "NO FAIR! YOU ASKED A HARD QUESTION!" Katie Couric for President.
Katie asks Palin a question. John flies in, interrupts and goes on to answer for Palin. And then he says... "But I will let Palin answer for herself." LOL! Does McCain really think American public is this stupid?
That was a bad idea. Who the hell are McCain's advisers? I hope they stay on the job and keep coming up with great ideas like this one. All they're doing is making life easy for Obama. Keep up the good work, McCain 08!
