Yeah, its not like you were running for vice president or anything link WASHINGTON — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is questioning whether Caroline Kennedy is getting better treatment from the press in her bid for a Senate seat from New York than the battering she says she received as John McCain's running mate on the Republican presidential ticket. "I've been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope," Palin told conservative radio talk-show host and filmmaker John Ziegler. Clips from Ziegler's interview were posted on YouTube this week. "It's going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be," Palin said. New York news media have published or broadcast numerous stories containing criticism of Kennedy's lack of experience in elective office and whether she is the best choice to replace Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has been asked to join the Obama administration as secretary of state. In the interview, Palin criticized the news media's coverage of her and her family, telling Ziegler that CBS News anchor Katie Couric and comic actress Tina Fey had been "exploiting" her. Palin gave Couric a rare interview at the beginning of her campaign for vice president, and Fey frequently impersonated Palin on "Saturday Night Live." Palin singled out the Couric interview as condescending, particularly a question about what she reads and, according to the governor, "What do you guys do up there?" In fact, Couric never asked that question but did press, unsuccessfully, for the governor to state specific newspapers she read, which Palin never did. Palin also complained about reports suggesting that Trig Palin was not her son and said she was "frustrated" by rampant rumors about her and her family. However, mainstream media stayed away from such rumors, which were fueled by bloggers and others online and the supermarket tabloids. "I wasn't believed that Trig was really my son," she said. She called it a "sad state of affairs." "What is the double-standard here?" she asked. "Why would people choose to believe lies? What is it that drives people to believe the worst, perpetuate the worst?" "When did we start accepting as hard news sources bloggers, anonymous bloggers especially?" she asked.
Class issue? ...a show which Palin appeared on. I hate it when those stuck-up snobs ask me what I read. Ooooh, look at you, you news lady. You read. BFD. First I've heard of this. IRONIC EXPLOSIONS
Please. There's a big difference between being the 1 VP of the country, particularly when the President is 72, and being 1/100 of the Senate representing 1 state. Of course the coverage should be more exacting for the VP candidate. There is no equivalency at all between the two positions. One is a heartbeat away from the Presidency and the leadership of the free world, the other would be one heart beat away to being the only Kennedy in public office. I don't care about who NY picks for the Senate. I'd prefer it not be CK, but I really don't care. I do care about who might become an unelected president. we've already had one travesty of that type recently.
This came out for several reasons (memory on the subject is muddled): Bristol's family photo made her look pregnant Bristol was out of school for 'mono' for like 4+ months (common excuse for pregnant daughters) Sarah, after having her water break in Texas, gave a speech then flew back to Alaska to her local doctor (not even at a big hospital in Anchorage) No medical records It pretty much all died down when Sarah announced that Bristol was pregnant.
She wouldn't have been mocked if she didn't give stupid answers to the few questions she did answer. If you don't want to be made fun of, don't say that being able to see Russia from your house is a foreign policy qualification.
Palin never said she could "see Russia from my house". Tina Fey did based on Palin's comments about the close proximity of Russia to Alaska. Palin said something like, "you can see Russia from an Alaskan island".
Katie Couric: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that? Sarah Palin: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and, on our other side, the land-boundry that we have with Canada. It's funny that a comment like that was kinda made to … I don't know, you know … reporters. Couric: Mocked? Palin: Yeah, mocked, I guess that's the word, yeah. Couric: Well, explain to me why that enhances your foreign-policy credentials. Palin: Well, it certainly does, because our, our next-door neighbors are foreign countries, there in the state that I am the executive of. And there… Couric: Have you ever been involved in any negotiations, for example, with the Russians? Palin: We have trade missions back and forth, we do. It's very important when you consider even national-security issues with Russia. As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right next to, they are right next to our state.
Now I remember what that annoying ringing noise that had been missing from my head for the past few months initially was. Palin wouldn't have been scrutinized so meticulously had she not conducted herself with so much hubris. It's silly to talk the big talk and then cry when exposed for being the absurd character that is Sarah Palin.
My bad - point is the same though. Being able to see Russia from an Alaskan island is not a justification of foreign policy experience.
1. It will seem in most of the country that Kennedy won't get the same scrutiny, because all the scrutiny will be done in New York. 2. Palin will probably still win on scrutiny because of how popular the presidential election is compared to other seats. 3. The importance of the positions is odd. One senator is probably more influential than a vice-president. But, with the death of a president, the vice-president becomes a lot more important. If you multiply that factor by the probablity that McCain will die in 4 years, I think Palin comes out as more important than Kennedy to scrutinize. 4. The difference won't be because of class. 5. Palin provided the press with a lot of blood in the water. If Kennedy does the same, they will go into the same feeding frenzy.
This complaint is utter crap unless Kennedy fails to answer the following questions: 1. What is the Bush Doctrine? 2. is Africa a country or a continent? 3. define "socialism" and "communism" I'm tired of hearing about this mentally r****ded lady, but nothing annoys me more than the hypocrisy of her essentially epitomizing social conservatism while at the same time she failed to prevent her underage high school daughter from having premarital sex, heck, not even SAFE sex, and getting pregnant as a result.. Then, acting all cool about it and hooking the poor couple together for "marriage".. Thank god Obama won!
To stay relevent, I guess Palin can run against the press until 2011, then revert back to her, "Off with the gloves and on with the heels" rhetoric to sew up the GOP nomination for 2012. NOT!
I find it very amusing that she attempted to portray herself as "tough", yet she whines to high heaven when people say and write things about her that are less than complimentary. please please please Repubs.....let this woman be the face of the GOP, and it just guarantees that you wont even sniff the White House anytime in the near future. If you guys want to run a woman, you better start searching for one that isn't a complete and total moron.
I've told the Dems on this forum many times they should hope and pray Palin prevails within the GOP because it would guarantee the GOP would be a wasteland for several elections to come. A couple of them that replied back still feared her as a presidential candidate. This woman cost McCain any shot at winning and, IMO, McCain would have pulled it out if he had chosen a legit running mate.
that woman god bless her she is a complete idiot and moron. And for anyone that would ever vote her into a position of power should feel horrible
So now the woman who gave us "palling around with terrorists" is complaining about harsh treatment? Can anyone remind me why she's still in the news?
It's not like Carolyn Kennedy is a Kennedy or anything and their entire lives have been under a microscope since they were conceived... Oh wait...
the article didn't make mention of palin's statement, " the world does not revolve around katie couric." the way she said, it was funny.
