This technique totally doesn't work! Let me tell you. I was once part of an ultimate frisbee team that wore dresses to teach game, and we were consistently destroyed by our competition.*

    * Of course, the losing may have been vaguely related to alcohol, the obligatory in-game cigar smoking, and our tendency to run "the chicken offense" (devised by me) where we would pair up, get on one another's shoulders for a height advantage.

Those pics of the kids are taken out of context.

Those kids are wearing those clothes as a tribute to Mohammed Al Durra, the little kid who was shot to death trying to hide from Israeli soldiers.

Contrary to the children whose pics Jeff posted, these kids will not actually go out and shoot at people. They will take pictures, and motivate some people, get taught about the enemy (not saying it's wrong or right), and then go back home.

When you have mentally ill people running things, they will do sickening things. This is just one of those cases where a child is so frustrated with life that he's willing to waste his life, earn his family $20, and supposedly go to heaven.

Are you nuts? What context could possibly justify stirring up hate in children like that? And in case you have still not come to a conclusion: IT IS WRONG.

    I am paraphrasing Dennis Miller:

I know that 72 virgins might sound awesome, but about 35 virgins in, I know I am going to be longing for a little experience. I mean, I appreciate the whole befuddled thing as much as the next guy, but at some point in the evening I am going to want a finger shoved up my a$$.

One day, those kids are going to see their family/friends die right in front of their eyes and it won't matter if you dressed them in guns or ballerina outfits.

A comedian who used to be really funny. He did the Weekend Update feature on SNL for a few years and was hired for Monday Night Football for a season.

Sane, you being apologetic for parents stirring up hate in their children by saying "the pictures were taken out of context" disgusts me.

It's just that that quote somehow sounded more like Henry Miller to me!

Update from Reuters, with some heartening comments...
    -----------------------------
'God curse those who sent baby-faced bomber'
    March 25 2004 at 05:21PM, REUTERS

    By Atef Sa'ad

Nablus - Palestinian militants faced a public backlash on Thursday for using youths as suicide bombers after Israeli troops caught and persuaded a 16-year-old to take off an explosives vest at a checkpoint.

People throughout the West Bank and Gaza were shocked by the internationally-televised footage of a bewildered-looking Hussam Abdu struggling to remove the bomb belt on Wednesday with other Palestinians queued at the roadblock cowering in the background.

"God curse those who recruited and sent Hussam! How could they? He's only a boy. I'm sure whoever sent him would never have sent his own children to do this," Nasser Mbayyed, 35, a car mechanic, said in Nablus where Abdu lived with his family.

'God curse those who recruited and sent Hussam!'
Training guns on Abdu from a safe distance, Israeli soldiers at the Hawara checkpoint outside Nablus talked the diminutive teenager into removing the vest, then lifting his shirt and dropping his pants to show he was not hiding any other weapon.

An army spokesperson said Abdu was detained for questioning to determine who dispatched him.

Palestinian militant groups vowed to escalate attacks on Israel to avenge its assassination of Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmed Yassin in a missile attack in the Gaza Strip on Monday.

Thursday's incident spread panic among parents in Nablus, the West Bank's largest city and a militant bastion, who said they feared armed factions could lure their children into embarking on suicide missions.

Nine days before at the same checkpoint, a Palestinian boy of 12 working as a porter was detained after a bomb was found in a bag on his cart. The boy told soldiers he did not know the bomb was there and was later freed.

'How could they? He's only a boy'
There was no claim of responsibility for Abdu's mission or the earlier episode from the slew of militant groups waging a Palestinian uprising against Israel in the West Bank and Gaza.

Militants in President Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction denied Israeli accusations that they had exploited both boys.

"We never recruit children. We don't recruit anyone under 17 years old," said Hashem Abu Hamdan, a leading Nablus-based member of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades wanted by Israel.

Palestinian public discontent over violence bubbled to the surface in January when Islamists sent a mother of two and a youth of 17 on suicide missions. She killed four Israeli security personnel, while he killed only himself.

Abdu, in an army videotape provided to journalists, said he decided to blow himself up because "people do not like me". His mother, Tamam Abdu, said he had been bullied at school.*

"I'm happy my son is still alive," said Abdu's father, Bilal, 54. "But I'm angry at those who recruited him and angry at Israel because its measures lead to all this."

He was alluding to military incursions and clampdowns that Israel says are meant to stop suicide bombers but Palestinians call collective punishment because they pin down the population.

Israeli government spokesperson Avi Pazner said militants were stooping to use of innocent-looking youths as suicide bombers because their networks were being decimated by army operations.

A classmate of Abdu who gave his name only as Nasser said Yassin's murder was a good reason for further suicide bombings.

But Palestinian President Yasser Arafat urged his people to show restraint. On Wednesday, he reiterated his opposition to attacks that target Israeli civilians and commitment to peace through a negotiated settlement with Israel.

Seventy prominent Palestinian intellectuals and politicians joined his appeal, calling in a newspaper advert for peaceful protests over Yassin's killing rather than bloody revenge.

For many years, the late Henry Miller was considered the "Bad Boy" of American literature. His novel, The Tropic of Cancer, first published in France, dealt with the ribald exploits of expatriate writers in Paris during the 1930s. For over twenty years, the book was banned in the USA. Elmer Gertz successfully defended the book's publication in Illinois. After the ban was lifted, Gertz and Miller became friends--a friendship the lawyer recalls in this exclusive interview with American Legends.)

A wacked-out but in many ways excellent American author who wrote principally in and of Paris in the 1930's. He's definitely not for everyone, but I love him. I tore through most of his books one after the other. Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn are the two most famous. This is a terrible comparison, but imagine a nearly pornographic and highly profane version of the Sun Also Rises or maybe A Sport and a Pastime.

Many are familiar with him because he was pretty famously banned in the US in the 60's. But, yeah, go to a book store and read a page or two at random and you'll know pretty conclusively if he's for you or not.

The US also, technically uses child soldiers, he have refused to sign the UN child soldier act because we still draft kids at 16, as opposed to 18. The fact that our country will allow kids to join the military before they can legally buy nicotine or alcohol, clearly shows that some of our priorities are messed up.
