For those asking what to eat, the paleo diet works for people because they stop eating so many carbs, salt, and sugar. That's all there is to it. That translates to less fat retention, less edema, and more stable hormones. That usually means eating a lot of "plain foods" but that doesn't mean just eating lettuce with dry chicken either.... a lot of trial and error goes with it. Try different meats, from different brands, different combinations, and so on. It helps to just eat the same thing for the week, which i know sounds boring, but if you find options you like, then it's not bad at all. You can always complicate things later and figure out how to cook actual dishes.
Exercise is self explanatory, so I'll just go into the diet and lifestyle. Paleo Going on the Paleo diet has nothing to do with losing weight. I have never in my life been overweight. It is about BEING healthy, not just looking healthy. The essence of the Paleo diet is that as a species we have evolved over hundreds of thousands of years. Our diet has largely remained the same, or evolved gradually along with us during that time, until the agricultural revolution 5,000 years ago. Since then, our diet has changed drastically, while physically we have largely remained the same. 5,000 years is a mere speck in the evolutionary timeline, leaving our bodies nowhere near enough time to adapt. For hundreds of thousands of years, we did not have any grains in our diet. Today, carbs are the main source of energy for the modern diet and the base of the food pyramid. For hundreds of thousands of years, we did not have sugar in our diet outside of some fruits. In 1800 the average western man consumed 10 lbs of sugar a year. In 1930, that increased to 100 lbs. Today in the US, it is almost at 200 lbs a year. The average free range cow has a life span of 20-25 years. Dairy cows live for less than 40 months. They are so pumped up with hormones that there is no such thing as healthy milk/dairy. Legumes were not eaten by our ancestors, and most are toxic if uncooked. They are high in lectins, a protective protein that can damage intestinal lining and cause autoimmune diseases. With all that, how is it at all surprising that heart disease, autoimmune disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer have reached pandemic levels in modern society? What can you eat? Everything else. Meat. Different kinds of meat from different animals. Different parts, our ancestors did not live off of steak and chicken breast alone. Organ meats, bone marrow. Seafood. Eggs. Healthy animal fat. Teach your body to generate energy from fat as opposed to carbs. **** the food pyramid. Vegetables of all kinds. Fruits. Nuts and seeds. Some tricky legumes to avoid: peanuts, green beans, peas. Coffee is okay at moderation, it is a seed not a bean. Wine is fine, beer is not.
I thought most chronic illnesses came about through increased life expectancy over time along with poor diet choices and the lack of regular exercise. You already have studies showing longer life spans in rats with a reduced calorie diet. No need for more Jedi mind tricks there. In fact, it's said that beer was one of the cornerstones for early large populations without a potable water source. I assume paleo dieters eat their meat raw caveman style and have their guts fortified against worms, parasites, and germs normally seen around the third world... Reducing carbs, namely processed starches, towards elimination is already worthy goal. The other parts I think are largely gimmicky and shrouded in "Founding Father" like legitimacy.
Lol dumbest post in this thread. Diet is 90% of being fit. You must be the guy who can't control his sweet tooth and alcohol addiction which caused your beer belly and stretch marks.
If you guys are lookIng for a real diet and workout routine that's short and sweet search up LeanGains and Starting Strength.
The paleos didn't live long enough to get all these diseases. They didn't have enough food to eat themselves into these diseases. For the most part our diet is fine. The food pyramid is fine. It's the quantity that we eat them and the lack of exercise. Here's Greg Giraldo's take on your caveman diet. <div style="background-color:#000000;width:520px;"><div style="padding:4px;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:arc:video:comedycentral.com:0a25b4a0-ed01-11e0-aca6-0026b9414f30" width="512" height="288" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed><p style="text-align:left;background-color:#FFFFFF;padding:4px;margin-top:4px;margin-bottom:0px;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><b><a href="http://www.comedycentral.com">Comedy Central</a></b></p></div></div>
How about people just handle their s*** in moderation and common sense. But good for you if you found some set of rules to keep yourself in check. Another example of these straight-edge type threads popping up.
So no fap, go fk some hoes, grab me a 4x4 animal style protien style no buns, cheese or spread and lift some heavy asss weights. Cool! Think I'll give it a try.
X2 dumbest sht I've read on here that would mislead some genuine folks trying to lose weight AND get healthier.
I just want 3 simple meals to eat every day. Every day. breakfast:eggs n spinach? What else? Protein shake? Lunch: turkey slices wrapped in lettuce with bacon?? Dinner:Chicken and a salad snacks:nuts. Seems like way too low calories so far, but maybe there's other easier foods i can't think of? Where normally i would easily just throw in some black beans and corn or green beans or rice, i can't do that with this diet, so what am i leaving out that is easy and quick?
Pretty sure he wouldn't post this if he was fat. Some people, including me, can literally eat everything and not get weight issues if they do a bit fitness.
Let me preface by saying that is more of my 'fresh' food list cost. I have stocked up items in the pantry such as protein powder, oils, nuts, and other things that you can buy 1 time and last you a very long time. If you are getting started out you can buy frozen foods to minimize costs, they aren't the best for you but it is a start. I also do intermittent fasting once a week. One thing I really picked up on when trying paleo (started beginning of this year) was making things yourself from scratch. Salsa is a very easy thing to make that can go on anything pretty much. Not only will it save you money you get a better understanding of the things you are eating. A big thing with paleo is getting rid of salt/sugar addiction that most of our bodies have thanks to the modern American diet. Eggs are your friend, I probably go through 8-10 eggs a week, you can buy them in bulk and they last a very long time in the fridge. Avocados are also a great powerfood. Buying vegetables on sale will also save you a lot. The diet is as simple as it sounds: meat, eggs, fish, vegetables, fruit. Fresh fruit and meat will be the most costly, I have a pack of frozen berries I use for protein shakes. Nuts go a long way in keeping you feeling full for a long time. Green tea is also great. I'm 5'6 170# started the year at 195# and am down 4 belt sizes. I work out 5-6 times a week and feel stronger than I did when I lifted a ton and did football in high school. A big part of it is just to work out and not eat junk. You should also have one cheat meal a week where you eat things you really enjoy to not make yourself go crazy. Start out slow, write everything you eat down for a week and you will truly get a grasp on how much you are intaking. With a lot of people diet is a struggle but if you write it down you will realize it is rather simple and easy to keep track of. Alcohol is another big thing, I drink fairly regularly and would definitely be down a lot more weight if I didn't. I don't drink liquor, definitely stay away from any mixed and sugary drinks. Set a goal, short terms ones and long term ones; once you get motivated a little you will keep working more to achieve your goals.
Less beer, less bacon, less double cheese burgers. Eat cow tripe if you want to, it doesn't hurt, but it certainly doesn't make you F'ing invincible. When it comes to vegetables, eat alot of them. Eat lots of leafy greens, do green smoothies regularly. Eat natural fats like chicken skin and fatty fish. Don't eat too much fruits, though dark berries are always welcomed. Basically if you feel healthier after eating something, you should keep eating it. Everyone's body chemistry is unique, you'll just have to discover the diet that suits yourself, and quit worryng about what others think.
ya i don't think i'm gonna be able to do this. I'll just eat healthy and smaller portions. The biggest problem for me is that i drink heavily every single weekend with no break. The biggest jump in weight was 20 lbs during 2010 when i drank like 3-4 times a week for a whole year. And it's not just the beer, its the eating junk food or mexican food after a night out to sober up. Once that big weight gain happened is when i started to get lazy and just eat a quick value menu meal instead of just make a small little sandwich or something. 50 lbs gained in total. If i can just take a few months break from drinking and start this P90 program, i can drop a lot. I have a treadmill(i hate running or working out outside in public) and resistance bands. I still have a lot of muscle left from my past and i don't want to lose it with under eating. With muscle memory, i know i can get back to being that toned stud i was, i just need to focus on diet and working out and no beer. Also the break from drinking can help with the tolerance. I can't be drinking 15 beers and barely have a buzz anymore. I want to get drunk off a 6 pack.
Is diet soda a no-no? What do you guys use for salad dressing, I just can't stand the taste of vinegar, is there an alternative? Thanks.
