Adeel - it was quite clear from thadeus' post that he was referring to blasphemous speech. Attempting to point out his "incorrectness" by relating blasphemous speech to commanding murderous orders by a Head of State is truly ignorant.

Would you say that Blasphemy is simply just words, and nothing more?

 

What more is it? Seriously?

 

To me blasphemy is twisting the "word of god" for your own personal gain. It's the reasoning for saying the words that is important -not just the saying of words.

 

There is so much proof in this thread alone that the problem comes from the religion as it has associated itself with the culture/legal system that you would have to be blind not to see it. One only needs to read the posts of some of the posters like penda45 and adeelsiddiqui, and unless you assume they are complete outliers (which they are not, unfortunately), then you know it is not an isolated issue at all.

 

So then this woman didn't blaspheme, right? She didn't hurt anyone or gain anything.

 

So what punishment do you suggest for people who commit "blasphemy" as defined by you?

To many it is much more. It is a against the tenets of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. It is considered much more severe of a crime than murder in some religions.

There are many crimes that are simply "just words", yet we seem perfectly content with those.

 

More random spewing, without any actual substance. How do you get through a normal conversation in real life?
