Just for illustration, here are some verses from the Quran (taken from this link ):

Still, somehow, someone in Pakistan managed to carve out a death penalty.

EDIT: I have bolded certain words, they are not normally bolded.

This is clearly a secret Muslim plot to suggest that it is at least 20,000 years old and thus predates all other religions practiced on earth. ;)

True. And I guess the lawyer's personal opinion on the law isn't really relevant. What is relevant is what can be done to abolish this law as quickly as possible.

From what I have read, nobody dares to touch it, not even the minister for minorities (who is christian - and whose post is to be abolished, which came out three days after the death sentence for Asia Bibi). Apparently, anyone who would dare to ask for it to be abolished would immediately be a target for death threats by islamists.

Plus, I don't really buy the distinction "it's Pakistani law, not islamic law". Hello? The law deals with islam's prophet.

It was actually introduced by dictator Zia Ul Haq, who led the country toward islamization.

IMO we should inform Pakistan that, if she is executed for such a trivial offense, there will be no more economic aid coming the next time they experience a flood, famine or earthquake.

That's because Bangladesh is 2,000 miles further from Afghanistan.

I don't think it's right to threaten withholding humanitarian aid, that's just silly.

I do agree that we should threaten to withhold the billions in "military" aid we give to Pakistan ever year.

Compromise then? Withhold both if she is executed.

I understand this is punishing thousands who have no say in the execution, but this is a "all for one and one for all" solution to spur a huge outcry against those who can affect yet another crime against humanity.

Maybe a little, but the 2010 floods alone directly affected 20 million people.

I am seeing that many people here(I am not going to name names, but I am pretty sure everyone knows who they are) are trying to portray that the problem is with Islam. We all know that is their agenda and it will not change, and to the Muslims who keep trying to address their ignorance, please be advised that Allah tells us in the Quran to ignore the ignorant.

My post here is for the person who has a shred of common sense and open mindedness. Majority of the controversial threads about Islam on this board deal with 3rd world countries and Sau Di Arabia. Where the education level is minimal at best, this suggests that the problem is with EDUCATION and that only.

This is why gaining knowledge is one of the HIGHEST commands in Islam, I mean the first verses of Quran revealed were commanding Muslims to read and recite. The problem here is the lack of worldly and religious knowledge, and this is a debate in and of its own.

Now with the topic of blasphemy of the Prophet(PBUH) this is a crime in Islam that constitutes the Capital punishment because this in Islam is regarded as treason. In an Islamic system(which Pakistan is not by the way) these laws are made clear to the Ahl-Al-Dhimma(protected non Muslims in the Islamic empire), and they are made to sign on these laws, in our modern terms this is known as an oath. If one looks in history one can see that the previous Muslim rulers who offered protection to the Christian and the Jews made these rules clear and made them agree to or sign off on these rules and agree to the penalty for the breaking of these rules and one of the rules were that one should not commit blasphemy.

So if Pakistan isn't under an "Islamic system", why was this Christian woman given "capital punishment"? I guess I'm not really sure what your point is.
